and then finally to my seat in Memorial Stadium!

Walk from Univ and Sacramento to Rockridge BART where I meet up with friend coming in from Pleasant Hill;
Walk to Maxwell Field to greet team 2.5 hours before game
Walk down to Bancroft Clothing or ASUC Store
Cal Band Concert and Pep Rally on Sproul steps
Then walk back up to Memorial and sit down for three hours (but BELLOWING as appropriate on defense!)

In the past, I've taken Bart in from Contra Costa to the Rockridge Station and then the express bus down College Avenue. It was $3/$5 R/T last time I took it. However, there's a new bus company providing the service this season and the price has doubled to $10 R/T which seems to me to be a bit steep for a 20 minute ride.

I may now have to use one of the "secret" routes/parking spots revealed in this thread, but I won't tell anyone else --- promise.

Wake up oh dark thirty, b$itch at the wife to get moving, check tickets and binocs(regular, not loaded), get on I80, 218 miles door to BF parking lot. Similar to others get off in Albany but take San Pablo to Cedar to Shattuck to Durant to BF lot. Walk straight up to kleeburger/maxwell because we usually don't have a lot of time with the early games.

450 mile RT X 7 plus Utah game this year equals lots of driving...

College football game day

Roxie and Starkey on the pregame as we roll down 580 from Alameda toward Tele like Woodstock Nation our blue and gold war party approaches Memorial...

Hit the reserved parking and walk or shuttle it past the Row to Memorial(nothing like the Row to get you going- smiling all the way)

Pre game chatter with anyone as we watch warm ups and bag it

Can't wait for the band and intros for that adrenaline rush

Can't wait to hear the winning Cal post game show

Exit down Shattuck

When Cal wins, my rule is everyone wins- out to dinner

From the northbay- 101 to 580/ R-SR Bridge, exit at Marin Ave, up the hill to MLK, down MLK to Cedar, up Cedar and park on the northside somewhere not too far off Hearst and Gayley (one person has a disabled placard- so no worries about meters, and often there's blue spots if you get there early enough.)

Alternatively, if it's too late for there to be much close in street parking, and/or the person with the placard isn't with us that week - park in the vicinity of north berkeley bart and bart in.

Then, some combination of Faculty Club, Sproul-and-the-Band, and Maxwell-that-was-Kleeberger. Which, and in what order, depends on how late it is, how cold/wet it is (we've often got people who shouldn't get chilled or soaked) and who we're meeting (people coming in on bart usually prefer the Faculty Club, people with parking up near the stadium usually prefer Maxwell or just want to tailgate where they're parked.) Always try to be in the stadium, seated and ready to go well before pregame.

It can be such a challenge sometimes. I usually park at McArthur BART Station, take the BART to Berkeley, walk through the grove and make my way up to the Sproul steps, meet friends at the fountain to catch the pre-game concert, and then the march up with the band to Maxwell Field.

What are you tried and true methods? Only 8 more days.

Does Ashby BART station have good parking on game days? I used to do that and wondering if it's still a good way to go.

I do like the parking thing at Ashby and College and walk it up. Can avoid mass people traffic at Berkeley BART after the game. Would be halfway to Zachary's too. Winning.

Friday: 4 EDT wake in Gaithersburg Maryland. Check for tickets. Take the inter-county connector to BWI. 6 am EDT Southwest Airlines to Oakland. Noon CMS Time, Drive rental car to Richmond, spend afternoon/night with oldest brother and his wonderful wife. Confirm tickets.

Gameday: Check tickets. Pick up two other brothers. Whatever road goes from Richmond to Albany. Stop on Solano Ave. for deli sandwiches to go. Check tickets. Drop by the house where we grew up. Through the old Key system tunnel to Shattuck Ave. Check tickets. Park somewhere. Walk to the Stadium. Pray that I have not lost the tickets checking on them so many times.

They did lose the east lot at Ashby BART for the building of the Ed Roberts Campus--North Berkeley BART has more parking if you have a clear choice between the two, but leaving there after the game there is more traffic.

Mine starts with a red-eye flight from Honolulu getting into SFOIA on Friday morning, then having sushi for lunch or dinner with friends or relatives in Millbrae. Next morning, I catch the BART from Millbrae to Cal and walk up to CMS if alone or catch the bus shuttle if I'm meeting friends for a pregame meal in downtown Berkeley.

You're in my neck of the woods, BL72. I'm about 3 blocks, downhill, of Los Angeles and Spruce.

In my case, though, Mrs Slug has bad knees. So we drive to Underhill, park there, and take the shuttle to Prospect Lot.

I am in Section F, row 41, seat 9. Just look for a skinny, mid-70's Asian guy with glasses, and that's me!

Thanks, oskiwanabe. I hope you enjoyed that neighborhood, growing up. I think that my kids have also enjoyed growing up here.

Not sure that they'll necessarily come back to Berkeley, though. The oldest one looks like he won't choose to live in the Bay Area much less Berkeley.

I live in Albany so getting to the game is not a problem. A few times that I wanted to park near campus, I timed my oil changes or tire rotations so I can leave my car at one of the local shops on University Ave and pick it up right after the game. Free parking, but of course only works for day games.

Jiffy Lube Guy: But sir, you just had your oil and filter changed last Saturday, 82 miles ago.

OneTop: Grrrrrahhh. Shut up and change it again, son. I'll see you in six hours.

No. Jiffy Lube Guy: "Yes, sir, shall I put that on the same credit card as last time?"

Now that I'm carless, my options are either taking the 30 from Pierce and Chestnut to Sutter St and hopping on BART to Downtown Berkeley, or taking the 43 over to Cole Valley and grabbing my brother's car. I've lived in the city for 5 years but have never taken BART to a game. I do not miss having a car one bit, except on gameday it would be nice to arrive as fast as possible for the festivities. From the Marina, driving is usually much faster in getting to Berkeley.

If anyone who sees this is driving from the Marina, likes to arrive at least 2 hours before the game, and has extra room for 2 people, let me know!
