My refusal to engage is consistent with what I've said: attendance and football revenue will drive the decision to retain or fire Tedford. Further, it is consistent with the idea that it is pointless to talk about certain specific circumstances revolving around wins and losses.
I'll repeat my base point: wins and losses as the basis for retention is pointless when the decision will be based largely on football revenues. The common concept of wins and losses putting any coach on the hot seat is rudimentary, at best, even if it does apply in some situations. Wins and losses as the basis for retention does not apply in all situations, and not necessarily at Cal, even with a nearly half billion dollar investment in athletic infrastructure. I find such an approach appallingly shallow and narrow-minded.
Having said all that, we're on the brink of a new season. I typically find this point of the calendar full of optimism and hope for the season and Cal football's future.
I find this thread tending in the direction of doom and gloom. That isn't necessary or even desirable when we should be getting ready to welcome our football team home to a renovated Cal Memorial. In a very real sense I find it offensive, and even a bit morbid given the advent of the new season.
Therefore, I choose not to engage the proposed hypothetical.
My mistake for posting at all in this thread.
