Feel better?? That's one big sh*t you just took..ahhhh..I feel better just knowing you do!! :bravo

Yes, a bit better. A couple of mindless, devoid of reality Tedford supporting posts can trigger such a reaction. Hopefully I'm good 'til mid-season. At this point, I just want to see his first fake field goal in his 11th season to see he has a little gunslinger left in em.

My refusal to engage is consistent with what I've said: attendance and football revenue will drive the decision to retain or fire Tedford. Further, it is consistent with the idea that it is pointless to talk about certain specific circumstances revolving around wins and losses.

I'll repeat my base point: wins and losses as the basis for retention is pointless when the decision will be based largely on football revenues. The common concept of wins and losses putting any coach on the hot seat is rudimentary, at best, even if it does apply in some situations. Wins and losses as the basis for retention does not apply in all situations, and not necessarily at Cal, even with a nearly half billion dollar investment in athletic infrastructure. I find such an approach appallingly shallow and narrow-minded.

Having said all that, we're on the brink of a new season. I typically find this point of the calendar full of optimism and hope for the season and Cal football's future.

I find this thread tending in the direction of doom and gloom. That isn't necessary or even desirable when we should be getting ready to welcome our football team home to a renovated Cal Memorial. In a very real sense I find it offensive, and even a bit morbid given the advent of the new season.

Therefore, I choose not to engage the proposed hypothetical.

My mistake for posting at all in this thread.

It IS revenue. If the money keeps coming in, Tedford can stay forever. I have my tickets, but I won't decide on going up Saturday until Friday afternoon. If Maynard has a great day, I'll really be excited about the season. Otherwise, I am waiting for Kline after the 5-7 season we will have.

Several national lists of coaches "on the hot seat" have Tedford listed quite high going into this season. Several posters on this site have expressed the opinion that this is not true because of his pricey buyout clause, but I wonder if pressure to enroll more people in the ESP coupled with the disappointing player academic performance, and disappointing win-loss records may trump the buyout issue this season. How hot is Tedford's seat?

Not this year. But if we don't do better this year than last year, 2013 will be a hot-seat year.

The bottom line is:

Can Cal better fill seats and bring in donations with Tedford as coach, or with an unknown as coach.

Tedford has a few things going for him:
New stadiums always make donors happy.
He wins at home when his fans are watching, so they are willing to keep coming.
