Saw this in the Chronicle about AR and Butte College:

Quote:

Ten years later, Rodgers' legacy might include a reshaped view of junior college prospects. It's not exactly common for a onetime JC quarterback to start in the NFL, but Cam Newton joined Rodgers in that category last season. And his own brother, Jordan Rodgers - who led Butte to the national title in 2008 - is now the starter at Vanderbilt.

Gee, I wonder why Aaron didn't recommend Cal to his little brother since we have the guru of quarterbacks as our coach?

Does he?:tedford

We never offered Jordan, much to the dismay of his father on this very board. Sorry, but he's no Aaron.

His brother WANTED to come to Cal and Aaron's dad has been on here periodically the last year and a half or so complaining that Tedford didn't recruit him. He said after he signed with Vandy, he talked to Tedford who was surprised that Aaron had a brother that played QB. Most reasonable people agree that Tedford knew about it, considering his close ties to the Butte Head Coach, but that he didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. We also already had a crapload of QBs on the roster and could not afford to take anymore.

Aaron and Coach Tedford also vacationed together this summer in Tahoe, and a picture was posted on Twitter.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Besides, there's plenty out there to provide for legitimate gripes.

Jordan certainly proved the naysayers wrong, but he also came on last last year if I remember correctly....his first half of the season wasn't all that great and besides, only he only got 3 offers out of Butte. That is not to criticize him at all, but seems like many colleges didn't see enough to recruit him....I'd say he has good genes and one of those diamonds in the rough but nobody was knocking down his door....I wouldn't blame JT for this...now Sweeney and Mansion, that is another story...

Part of JT's problem is nepotism and cronyism, so relieved that this didn't happen.

I had no idea if he was good or bad and I did figure that people up here would know and now it sounds like and "oh well..." moment.

Ah, but some people feel that if JT applied nepotism and cronyism to Jordan Rodgers instead of Beau Sweeney, things might have worked differently at QB in recent times.

Just sayin'

I gotta be honest, if JR was here I would bet he'd be starting over Maynard. He is more athletic than Maynard, had a stronger more accurate arm and appears to be a hard working guy. Tedford may have had valid reasons for not recruiting him (too many guys ahead of him, thought AB or Hinder would develop faster/better), but given where things have ended up and what Rodgers looks like at Vandy, I have a hard time believing he wouldn't have won our starting job if given a fair shake. People will question whether others have been given a fair shake, and I won't disagree, but in terms of arm strength and running ability, Jordan appears to be a step above Maynard. Doesn't hurt that he talks X's and O's with Aaron just about every day.

You were not simply stating a fact.

"Gee, I wonder why Aaron didn't recommend Cal to his little brother since we have the guru of quarterbacks as our coach?

Does he (Trust in Tedford)?"

That is not a fact. It's pure editorializing and even speculation (speculating that Aaron didn't recommend his son play for Tedford).

I would definitely take on AR as a packaged deal if it meant we got JR.

This post (and the bickering that inevitably follows) is the new booth. I swear I see a variation of it every three months.

Moderators, we need a sticky notifying all posters that AR's brother plays for Vandy. Right next to the sticky that says Calvin Booth has a Cal tattoo.

Do you really believe that was his dad on this message board? Come on, i find that a little hard to believe.

Providing Tedford didn't screw with his natural mechanics with his "guru" stuff, I totally agree that JR would be starting over ZM at Cal....but the whole "star-rating worship" backfired on Cal.

JR was a 2-star at best coming out of HS (most likely NR or non-rated) and it seems that Tedford went for one QB each in the years Jordan Rodgers was (allegedly) ignored -- Brock Mansion in 2007 (4-star), Beau Sweeney in 2008 (3-star) and Allan Bridgford in 2009 (4-star).
