Sadly, I don't think we will, although I think we should. Instead I expect we will require our LBs to be in position all of the time with sad consequences.

If I were to put in a spy (not that I know anything) I'd be intrigued by the combination of speed and size Scarlett has. He's very fast and big, at least twice as athletic as any other LB we have (see what I did there), and if anyone has a chance to spy on Miller it could be Scarlett. I seriously doubt we will find out though.

Last two times we used the spy it worked. Conte on Thomas in 2010. Bishop on Dixon in 2006.

Good point, although Bishop on Dixon was Bob Gregory. Still, that gives me a slight hope we might see it again tomorrow . Anything but the dreaded (and dreadful) "scrape exchange" plskthx.

Certainly I was being literal. :headbang

Of course Braxton runs a 2.23 40, has a 78" vert and 2.11 cone drill...lol. C'mon now.

You could claim twice as athletic on a logarithmic scale. I might buy that, although that is still pretty darn impressive.

Conte and Bishop are now on NFL rosters. That's the difference....

Good point but they've got some developing to do first. The sooner, the better.

The OLB ain't gettin' to the hand off point that quick. He's got to play contain until he's sure that the ball is handed off or not. And, he's got to TRUST in his teammates to make the tackle of the RB if it is handed off. He can't disrespect them that they can't by cracking down the line to make the play on the RB himself (before he is sure that the RB has the ball). This is what McCain got sucked into in the Nev game, first half, at least.

If the QB pulls the ball, then the OLB is in position to close on him and force the play. The Pistol rarely has a pitch man after the QB/RB exchange.

It sure looks to me like OLB is getting to the QB right about the time he is faking the handoff to the dive back. Unfortunately for us he was being told to tackle the back (which he didn't even do) instead of just hitting the QB.

I just have to add that while watching this over and over it is still some of the dumbest football I've ever seen. I don't know who is exactly responsible but Cal has so many guys going for the dive back on these two plays and virtually no one going after the QB that it almost warrants firings (for coaches) and season long benchings for players. I mean if you can't get one of your defensive guys to hit the QB on these types of plays then you have no business playing or coaching football. It was one of the most frustrating nights of football I can remember. And I was at the game. I wasn't watching this with the help of replay. You could just see this ineptitude live while it was happening. The fact that Mullins was starting this game in 2010 and will be starting tomorrow makes me shutter. I hope he and the OLB are in sync tomorrow. We don't need both of them going for the same player. And if OSU's QB truly is their best offensive player, HIT HIM when he gives you the free chance on the option.

You talking about #47? He's at least a step late, running at full speed. Evidence being he couldn't touch either one of them. But, you're right - that was the dumbest football. And, to do it over and over and over? Ault must have been laughing up his sleeve.

I'm not saying the OLB has to be able to hit the QB while he is handing off I'm saying if he is concentrating on hitting the QB ONLY then he should have no trouble doing that right about the handoff point. The QB has a lot going on at this time and is not moving at full speed while the OLB has only one thing on his mind (in my scenario) and is moving close to full speed. Anyway, we'll see what the Bears have going for them today in a few. Enjoy the game.
