Tedford is officially on the hot seat and he knows it. Will he try to appease the fans and play Bigelow and possibly a backup QB? At what point does desperation (ie logic), overcome Tedford's stubbornness?

I'm also looking forward to the fans reaction if Bigs gets no touches early on and Maynard continues to suck. Perhaps Memorial can start a We want Bigelow chant.

I just hope Maynard doesn't get brain damage from 8 more sacks after Tedford forces him to stand in the pocket all night. That will be some BAD publicity for our program.

cal wins if maynard runs for some first downs and bigelow gets 10 touches excluding kick off returns.

It is not 1978 vs UCLA again (45-0, 5 or 10 interceptions), but UCLA wins this game. There will be no meaningful wins this season. Throw the football with your kids on Saturdays. Drive to the beach. Watch paint dry. Our season ended on September 1, we just weren't sure it was over until the tough win against SUU. Go up the Campanile. Look for Joe Kapp. Watch the 2003 and 2004 Cal SC games. Watch them on a DVD player on Tightwad Hill. There are a lot of great things to do in Berkeley on Saturdays in the fall.

He's going down a lot but I haven't seen him take many hard hits, even when he scrambles and dives head first.

Maybe with the writing on the wall JT will let loose and yank Maynard and Isi and finally start Hinder and Bigelow.

That would be entertaining no matter how it turned out.

I don't get the Isi hate by some of you. Is he as fast as bigelow? no. But he's not a bad tailback. He's a solid back...definitely a solid 2 and an adequate 1. You may disagree with JT playing him #1...but imho he (Isi) should not be dogged on..thats not his decision.

I don't see that much Isi hate here. Is he a good back? Yes. Does he (and CJA) deserve to start over Bigelow? Maybe. Does he (and CJA) deserve to have a monopoly on touches over Bigelow? No.

We don't hate Sofele.
We hate Tedford for being a buffoon because he gives Sofele 70% of the carries and CJA 30% of the carries (more or less).

How about like as many people in the stands raising "5"s like they do "3"s at basketball arenas? Everyone bring a sheet with a huge 5 printed on it, wear t-shirts of your favorite player wearing 5 (for instance for me, Juan Uribe of the Dodgers -- wait, that's my least favorite player). A "5" party!

Nope, Tedford will dig in and have the same approach that's brought him to this point in his Cal tenure. Sad.

The chant should be "Big-a-low, Big-a-low, Big-a-low, Big-a-low" instead of "We want Bigelow".

Asking for Bigelow is totally counterintuitive.

If you've followed JT at all, you know he's a guy who'll stick to his decision through thick and thin. It's the positive (sticking with us through tree sitters) and, simultaneously, negative (sticking with Maynard) part of his personality.

If you chant for Bigelow, he's LESS likely to play him because it will be seen as him catering to the crowds which he's NEVER done.

I want Bigelow to play and I want to see a new QB. But I don't want this team's crucial decision to be made by the mob. That's absolute madness. If this team were allowed to be ruled by the mob, that's reason enough for a new HC.

Then let's yell we want Ervin (that's the 5th tailback's name right?) and maybe he'll put Bigelow. To the other poster's point, I think Isi and CJ are studs, but doesn't mean there aren't enough touches for Bigs. Look at Oregon. They have two stud running backs but can make room for their home run threat Thomas to touch the ball a dozen or so times a game.

..touch any part of him and he goes down. The only runs that work are when he gets quickly past the line and in space. He cannot break tackles, which makes him average at best.

I disagree about Sofele. He has improved at breaking tackles, although his size/strength keeps a relatively low ceiling on that. Couple this with his quickness and shiftiness and he is now above-average. His ball security, however, still leaves something to be desired.

Anyone notice the defense targeting Bigelow when he did go in? When Bigelow lined up as receiver the CB would do this wave signal and look back to the sideline.

I've got it! We chant we want Maynard! Maybe even a 'we want Longshore'! (who looks damn good now, fwiw)

The thought of fans agreeing with his decision will either result in his head exploding or him pulling the guy whose name we're chanting because the fans can't possibly be right.

Curious. How come so much talk about bad QB play and rarely about bad play at left tackle, guard, and center positions and possibly giving the younger guys an opportunity at those positions. I know the "experts" on tv love to focus on QB play but this is a fan forum where if you have watched the games you could see that the issues start with the line.

I agree--like everything else--adopt simple blocking schemes and get your best athletes on the field, even if freshmen. Focus on run blocking and throwing off of play action. Then you can play Bigelow and with all those first downs there will be plenty of carries through out the game for Sofele and CJ too.

He's taking his biggest hits after throws from the pocket--which happens even more frequently than his getting sacked. Even a few late hit no calls.

He has had his bell rung a few times on runs.

I have been a big fan of Sofele since he arrived. I was his biggest defender against his detractors last year before the season started saying that, other than WR, he was the last thing I was worried about.

As for the complaints he goes down easy--that applies in 2 situations: 1) First down and short yardage runs into the wall and 2) draw plays where the defender gets a hand on him before he can start running.

Once he gets going he is very difficult to bring down in space. So I disagree with those trashing Isi calling for Bigelow. Yet I still want Bigelow. Why?

Sofele is very good, but Bigelow can be great.

The same was true with Forsett and Best, Echemandu and Arrington and even Arrington and Lynch or at QB with Robertson and Rodgers. The first guy doesn't need to suck to warrant playing the guy with game breaking star potential. People are too black and white, good as bad in their thinking. Sometimes there is good and better (sometimes there is not so good is the best we have).

The problem is that sometimes calls for a back up in game sound like disrespect to the guy playing his heart out. that would suck. I wish Tedford would just do the obvious so the fans wouldn't feel like they need to start chants.

When you're on the hot seat you're already gone. It's just a question of when at this point. Short of winning 6 of the next 7, which is almost impossible, he's going to bite the dust. If by some miracle he survived this year, he'd have to be in the Pac 12 championship game to save his job next year.

Or maybe we can all show up at Memorial Stadium and support this team and staff in a huge conference home game?

UCLA ain't that good, folks. We've played a much tougher schedule. We win Saturday and ruin the Nega-Bears week.

I believe so.
This is an entirely different UCLA Bruin team under Coach Mora.
If you've watched them play this season, you know what I mean.
Can't believe that they are only favored by 2.5 QB Brett Hundley is ranked #3 in the Conference
with a QB rating of 150.6 and RB Jonathan Franklin leads the Conference in rushing with 697 yards.
They score points.
We do not.

Sheldon Price leads the Conference with 4 INT's on the season.
LB Anthony Barr has 6 sacks and LB Damien Holmes has 4 sacks on the season.
It's gonna be a sack-fest.
