There will be some significant drama over the next 2 days for the A's even though they have already clinched. Other than the Detroit Tigers, who have clinched the Central and a 3 seed in the A.L., all other teams could finish anywhere else in the 1-5 seeding of the playoffs, as they are within 1 game of each other. That includes the A's who could win the West by winning their last 2 games. That would assure them of a 2 seed. But they could finish with at least a tie for the top seed if the Yankees lose at least 1 of their last 2.

In other MLB notes: All the playoff contenders but the Braves and the Tigers play games that matter today. In the NL, the Braves will have the 4th seed and the Giants will have the 3 seed, but Washington and Cincinnati are still battling over 1st and 2nd seeds and St. Louis has yet to secure the last wildcard spot over the Dodgers. Some things to enjoy as a diversion from the reality TV drama that Cal football has become.

Go A's...hate the new 1-game wild card playoff, another backwards and retarded idea from Bud Selig. A 1-game playoff is a coin flip or cutting cards and it's going to be a let down and turn off to many after a great ramp up to the end. Play at least 3 games.

Agree what a crummy prize for making the playoffs. I'd rather see them cut some games from the regular season.

Let's go Oakland, Tampa and Boston. The A's own the tiebreaker if they sweep Texas and end up tied with NY or Baltimore. They'd also win the WC tiebreaker if they tied with the O's. I think.

If they sweep Texas they win the West. They own the tie breaker over Baltimore via head-to-head if tied for home field advantage in the Wild Card game.

Right, I should have said #1 seed / home field tiebreaker if they end up with the same record as the AL East winner. Just found this MLB.com article from yesterday:

If the AL East and AL West champions finish with identical records, tiebreakers will determine which one plays the AL Central champ and which one plays the winner of the Wild Card playoff -- and also which one would have home field in the Championship Series if they were to play each other.

• Yankees-Rangers tie: Yankees would play Wild Card winner and would have ALCS home field, due to 4-3 head-to-head record.
• Orioles-Rangers tie: Rangers would play Wild Card winner and would have ALCS home field, due to 5-2 head-to-head record.
• Orioles-A's tie: A's would play Wild Card winner and would have ALCS home field, due to 5-4 head-to-head record.
• Yankees-A's tie: A's would play Wild Card winner and would have ALCS home field, due to second tiebreaker, which is intradivision records. Head-to-head record was 5-5.

Just my second of the season... I truly despise the coliseum but love the A's. Since I am there though, the team I root for will likely lose. :headbang
