Would have been PERFECT to rededicate the stadium.

Blue and Gold, military tradition, war memorial, etc.

Not a big deal, just would have been ridiculously cool.

Hell, I would have been satisfied with Fat Albert.

I hit Fleet Week before heading back to Berkeley and the Blue Angels performed until about 4:30 then headed out. Had our game been at 5:00 maybe they would have stuck around? The Stealth Bomber would have been a really cool flyover as well!!!

If the kickoff was at 5PM, then it would have been great, but a 7PM kickoff near sunset means you would not have seen much with a flyover.

Not sure Berkeley is very good airspace. Have to think about it a bit but I am sure that there are potential conflicts with the take off and landing vectors for Oakland and they really try to minimize what goes on in those areas in case there is a problem with a commercial airline.

I had a classmate in grad school who was a Navy F/A-18 pilot and set up a fly over with his old squadron from NAS Lemoore. They were glad to do it, and then the administration vetoed it. Having said that, I also had a classmate from undergrad (also Cal) who actually flew a C-17 from Fairfield over the stadium for a game a couple years back. I remember getting the Leap Frogs (Navy SEAL demo team) for big game one year.

The military is excited to do it- I think the decision rests with someone in Sproul.

Was crossing my fingers we'd get a fly-over.

I don't think they fly or do demos at night or early evening.

We've had flyovers over Memorial. I recall once it was a Cal grad in the Navy that was announced as one of the pilots. Another time there was something above the game against Air Force.

Nobody remembers when the Army Black Knights did a parachuting demonstration over Memorial?

They have rules on these things, and sometimes they try stuff that gets them in trouble. Here's couple of pilots (both Georgia Tech grads) who "buzzed the tower" before and got permanently grounded for it.

Quote:

NORFOLK, Va. — Two F/A-18E Super Hornet pilots from Strike Fighter Squadron 136 have been permanently grounded for flying too low before a Georgia Tech football game Nov. 7, according to a source.

The pilots, both mid-’90s graduates of Georgia Tech, flew over Bobby Dodd Stadium in downtown Atlanta at just a few hundred feet above the stadium, under the 1,000 feet minimum required by Navy rules.

I have a special edition of "Top Gun" on Blu-Ray. The pilot who did the scene where they "buzz the tower" had the callsign "Bozo". They also noted that callsigns aren't made up by the pilot but rather given for various reasons. He said that he was doing the low pass for every pilot who wanted to do it but knew they wouldn't get away with it.

How things have changed over the years.

Not by the Blue Angels, granted, but SOMEONE would give us a flyover during afternoon games. But for 2012 - nothing: neither the Nevada, S. Utah or ASU games had flyovers. So why the change? (I don't expect a flyover for a night game).

I remember the parachuting demo. Didn't they jumped from way up there? Barely saw the C140s, if I recall.

I met a Blue Angels team back in 1992.
They were staying at the same hotel in Panama and were doing a show the next day on Panama's Independence weekend. I was headed to the Caribe for the holiday. Wondered how the show would go, since at that time of the year, there are usually 300 turkey buzzards hovering in the sky. Got back to the city a few day later and asked someone how the show went. Cancelled! because a bird got sucked into an engine. They shoud have known better. Got to see them at Fleet Week a few years ago. Things went much better for them.

I started thinking about it for a second, and the parachuting team is the "Golden Knights". "Black Knights" are the USMC.
