fUCLA seems to be recruiting pretty well too, thanks to Mora. Hope last week's game made them reconsider.

this will change once people realize what an awful head coach LK is and they drop 6 games next year with their new qb. of course, LK may bail again (he seems to do a great job of leaving just before people realize how bad he is).

Don't stress too much over this my friend. Lane Kiffen will f*** this up.

I'm not holding my breath. Kiffin can probably do well as long as he has overwhelming talent advantage and sanctions are not hurting his ability to bring in top talent, if anything it has kind of helped (scarcity argument).

We need to get off of our USC obsession. They are in the Pac-12 South. Our focus needs to be being the best team in the North. Oregon, Stanford, Washington, OSU and WSU are the programs we need to be absolutely better than.

Oregon has been good in recent years with lesser talent, now they are loading up on 4 and 5 star talent and have a system that gets their best athletes on the field and lets them make plays. They are the USC of the 2010's as far as Cal is concerned. They are the team we ultimately need to beat.

Our immediate goal needs to be moving ahead of Stanford again. Bringing home The Axe this year would go a long way.

However, none of this will happen until Tedford's situation is resolved. Either he needs to step up and challenge for Pac-12 titles with smart, inspired coaching in whatever time he has left or we will need to get a coach who can.

SC almost every year, gets better players as a group than anyone else in the Pac-8, -10- 12. SC competes for National Championships every decade, and almost always for our conference title. Our "history" ended in 1959. In the 53 years since, we have had TWO terrific years, but we did not win the conference either year. WE ARE NOT COMPETING WITH SC. Forget about compelting with SC long term. IT WILL NOT AND CANNOT HAPPEN. We do have a better graduate and undergraduate Chemistry program than SC does. Let's focus on that and feel really good every fall about our Chemistry recruits.

Calalumnus: No, there is STILL reason to focus on USC. South or north doesn't matter that much, because we still play them every year, just as if we were in the same division. That being said, for the foreseeable future, Oregon looks to be a tougher opponent for us compared to the Trojies.

We play them, so yes it counts as a loss, but if that is our only loss we win the Pac-12 North by beating an otherwise undefeated Oregon. Head to head in our division counts most.

Why do we continue to suffer from this never-ending USC envy?? We don't need to go after recruits that are subject to the NCAA clearing house every year when we are getting the likes of Treggs, Kline, etc. USC will eventually collapse vis a vis Lane Kiffin anyway.. so who cares? We need to focus on Stanford and Oregon, and now even the Huskies and the Beavers..We have our own niche for recruiting and this should continue to improve when these players, in turn, influence other recruits to come to Cal.

It's OK to envy the recruits SC gets year-in and year-out. It is something to aspire to so long as the recruit is a student/athlete, not someone who says, "Why do I have to go to class? I'm here to play football."

The only thing that can F-up recruiting for USC is poor coaching. UCLA was able to dominate recruiting during the 1980's in So Cal because we made some bad coaching choices. If we have a good coaching staff, then we will dominate recruiting NATIONALLY. Sanctions can't change the USC brand.

FYI: It's looking good for us with respect to Adoree' Jackson and Dwight Williams. I love Serra High.

I think their lineman have an awful lot to do with their success. In fact I would put it to you that any NFL executive worth his salt, should always consider the real talent of the players who stand behind that line:

1. Matt Linefart
2. Reggie Bush
3. Mark Sanchez

Just to name a few who aren't worth anything in the pros. So, yes they do get great lineman and it is a pisser that they do.
