Thanks for the link.

Missy also has good fashion sense, it seems, with her choice of Cal apparel -- simple design with 'Cal' script (e.g. without multiple logos of 'Cal' and 'California' and 'Berkeley'... all on the same shirt/hat like a lot of the crappy gear that Cal unfortunately gets).

It will be amazing to see the women's swim team dominate the NCAAs. And Missy seems like such a down to Earth girl. Definitely the top recruit in Cal history in any sport.

...she is so cute and bubbly. What a sweetheart and what a great addition to the Cal family.

Get her parents out here for basketball (notice I didn't say football) at Haas.

She did attend our Nevada game -- and still committed.

I don't think we/I think that much daily about Cal being a "Nike" school. But then, without having to drop a dime on her, Nike ends up with one of the most high profile athletes from the Olympics in their camp, at least indirectly. Interesting marketing world that we live in...

Nike should do the honorable thing and pay up for Tedford's removal to make up for getting free Nike endorsement from Missy.

Tedford built the SAHPC so we'd get this commit.

So I guess it has helped recruiting?... Swimming recruiting. What is JT's pitch to recruits now? "Hey, if we're good enough for Missy Franklin, we're good enough for you" or "You can tell your grandchildren that you went to school with Missy Franklin." or "Missy thinks that our facilities are the best in the nation, don't you want to use them too?" or "You'd get the chance to be around one of the best coaches is the country, coach McKeever!".

Can McKeever coach football? We know she can recruit well!

Also, we know she's a better motivator that's for sure. Probably a better administrator too.

Yep, her current success at Cal is Karma for those dirty shots from the McKeever's of old.

You can thank MCKeever being the Olympic coach, Natalie Coughlin being one of the most decorated female American swimmers, and SAHPC of course there's also that edjoomahcayshun thing.

This video is a great answer to those who say Berkeley is a negative the coaches have to "overcome" in recruiting--she cited the beautiful campus, "village" atmosphere, cafes for studying in and access to San Francisco.

I loved Berkeley for all the same reasons, it's one of the great college towns (and I've visited a lot around the country). Aside from the homeless/drug issue on Telegraph and People's Park, there isn't really anything about Berkeley that shouldn't be positive in recruiting.

depending on where you grew up, and what you're used to, a walk down Telegraph Avenue can be a negative.

Telegraph has so much potential, and if it cleaned up it's act a little, and supported the businesses better it could be a big plus. I'm not talkng about spending millions. Just clean it up to the level of Bancroft just north of Telegraph. At least that street is relatively clean, clear from undesirable sights, and has some nice businesses.

I actually remember seeing a few of the basketball players stop in front of Jamba Juice with a recruit, probably because of it's reasonably good vibe in that area compared to Telegraph.

Of course, I've also said that Cal should upgrade the fountain in Sproul Plaza. The current one has some tradition, but otherwise is embarrasing for the "center" of campus.

True, but if Missy Franklin from Aurora Colorado can see all the positives and how great the area is for your college years despite some urban issues like homeless people--then why do we think it should be a big issue with male football and basketball players from anywhere, but especially from places like L.A., Oakland, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Detroit...? The positives for recruiting FAR outweigh the negatives (unlike what some people claim).

.... and let's not forget the fountain's namesake:

I actually remember seeing him splashing around during my walks through campus in my early days at Cal. It just wouldn't be the same without that "ugly" fountain.
