Hey Cal fans,
I know that this season is not over and we still have a chance for a bowl game, but I'm already looking forward to next year. Our defense should be pretty fun to watch. All of the young talent that we were looking forward to just might finally develop. On the defensive line, Coleman, Moala, Jalil, Barr, Kaufusi, and King will be returning. At LB, McCain, Scarlet, Wilkerson, Forbes, Whiteside, Jefferson, Gibson, Camporeale, and Broussard will all be returning for the Bears. This will create a very talented and VERY deep front 7. Not only will the Bears have many players returning from this year, but they will have players coming back from injuries who were supposed to get good playing time. In the secondary, the Bears will have Williams, Jackson, and McClure returning at CB. And they will have Sebastion and Lowe at Safety. I think this defense is capable of having a Monster year, but the Bears need to put it together. I'm already excited.

I agree with this.

Can't wait to see how the new coach evaluates the QBs. Since none of them have any game experience, expect the most talented QB to play (which will be refreshing).

Unless the coach is Paul Hackett.

I really want to see Kline step in at QB. I want to see what this kid can do and see him develop over his career at Cal. Unless he pulls a "Kevin Riley" on us and doesn't develop into a solid QB over his years as a starter, I think that he could help bring back the hype to this program. The problems over the last few years have always seemed to be consistency of the QB and the O-Line and like usual, those are the two positions I am most concerned about for the 2013 season.

I am very excited about the players you mention for next year. I'm also very excited about having a new coach - I'm guessing we're less than a month away from that. Very excited.

Any relation to Stefan McClure? I'm very excited about his return.

if Kline turns out to be an above avg pac 12 QB and we get some half ass coaching. Rose Bowl 2014

2014 Line up

QB - Kline (RS Soph)
RB - Bigelow (Sr)
RB - Lasco (RS Jr)
OL - Tagaloa (Jr)
OL - Okafar (RS So)
OL - Cocharn(Jr)? Moore(Jr)? Gibson (Sr)? Adcock (Sr)?
TE - Rogers (Sr)
WR - Treggs (Jr)
WR - Harper (Jr)
WR - Harris (Rs Jr)

Defense
DL - Moala (Sr)
DL - Jalil (Sr)
DL - King (Sr)
DL - Bar (Rs Jr)

LB - Fortt (Rs Sr)
LB - Forbes (Sr)
LB - Scarlett (Sr)
LB - McCain (Sr)
LB - Wilkerson(Sr)
LB - Whiteside (Sr)
LB - Gibson (Rs Jr)

DB - McClure (Sr)
DB - Jackson (Sr)
DB - Sebastian (Sr)
DB - Lowe (Sr)

This is a loaded line up on both sides of the ball. That defense is just scary. Really take some incompetent coaching to only get 7 wins with this group.

I agree. 2014 should be even talented than 2013. One guy I forgot on my list of key players returning was ILB Khairi Fortt.

I don't know about Rose Bowl. Outside of linebacker we are lacking depth. Also, you glossed over the offensive line pretty nicely but we'll have to do a lot better there.

Agree OL and depth at DL will be the question marks. OL has the talent, but lacking exp.

After this season, this will be the new head coach announcement from Sandy Barbour in December:

"We are pleased to announce that our 48 minute long search for a new football head coach has ended with the hire of Fred Sims, from Berkeley High School. Fred is a two-time North Coast Section championship winning coach at St. Elizabeth High, and has led the Berkeley High the past three seasons.

Hiring Fred is the Athletic Department's latest coup to our fellow PAC-12 football programs. The Athletic Department has made some mistakes in the past. But like our students, we are always learning.

Last January, we lost a crucial assistant coach due to inability to compete in the changing arena of assistant coach pay. In response, Cal has decided to spend less money on the head coaching position, leaving more money for the assistants. Fred has generously agreed to the amount of $800,000 a year, leaving plenty of room for assistant coach pay. It is his first day on the job and he has already shown how much he cares about Cal football. Let's give it up for Fred Sims!"

Fred won't have Maynard, so he's ahead of the game. And Bigelow and Lasco will be in line for carries so that's a plus. Heck, I like Coach already.

I am sure we've been getting our hopes up for "next year" as long as we were Cal fans, but it seem more so last 4-5 years. I guess when you have good recruits, it's hard not to have high expectations. Problem is that, with our current top management (HQ), we are getting the same disappointing result.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but nothing tells me that anything will be different, unless we see some changes at the top.

October Kool Aids doesn't taste any better as far as I am concerned.

How typical. Even in make-believe world, you've managed to overpay the HC according to his experience. Cal strikes again.

Unfortunately, I think this is more likely than Cal hiring a coach with the proper gravitas and experience to succeed at Cal.
