Bridgford is 17 for 48 on his career. He is unathletic and has a slow delivery and weak arm. He has sucked every time we've seen him play and he sucked in HS in playoff games against good competition. He benefitted from playing on a dominant HS team and doing well at camps. He hasn't been able to beat out Maynard or any other QB ahead of him since arriving on campus. There is no reason to think he is the answer. There is no statistical category for "almost completions."

...and yet he broke all of Mark Sanchez's records in high school playing against the same teams he did....now I'll agree that his passes don't have a lot of zip on them, but he did pass better than ZM in 2011 until JT picked ZM for whatever nefarious reasons...hell, even Moraga Bear said that. Given some coaching and playing time, AB would be miles better..I mean, ZM doesn't even look like a QB with his lousy pocket presence and terrible accuracy

And let's not forget how great a judge of QBs Tedford is.

Bridgford throws a nice looking ball, but his throws don't have much velocity on them which allows defenders to close and make plays on them. Last year I was hoping that was because of his injury, but it looks the same this year. If our offense were well designed and got guys wide open with scheme, I am confident that he could deliver the ball and put up good numbers, like Leinert did at USC, or he did in high school. Reggie Robertson was similar--accurate but not a cannon arm, but he could hit MacArthur or Makkonen on a slant in stride. Given our issues on the line, hopefully we tailor the offense toward having Bridgford make quick throws to play makers and more play action to the TE over the middle.

Kline passed up Boehm. Bridgford couldn't pass up beau sweeney or brock mansion. Hell, even Sweeney passed up brock at one point.

You're talking about Tedford, who insists on starting what looks like one of the worst QBs, and you expect me to take his QB rankings seriously?

8 of the last 10 Elite 11 classes have had a Cal QB commit -- all after Aaron Rodgers -- and yet we're still in the QB doldrums.

Tedford is a terrible evaluator of QB talent.

So his QB depth chart can't be taken seriously, especially when Maynard is Teford's best option.

Maynard is rock bottom as a QB option. It can only go uphill from him.

But Bridgeford didn't impress me other than 1 throw

Bridg barely had time to stretch, no practice passes on the sideline before he went in ...
few (if any) practice reps, no significant game experience ...
what the h.e.l.l did you expect ??????????????

I think bridg did about as well as you could expect from a guy who hasn't played in 3 years and gets only a handful of snaps in practice (hinder and Kline get none - zero). If tedford is back next year then I am willing to bet that bridg gets all preseason reps and is the game one starter. Kline and hinder will get limited preseason practice. So if bridg plays well then all is fine. If not then we are in same situation - backup with little experience. And we aren't seeing Kline for at least another year. Sorry

But I think bridg can do well with a whole preseason to get all reps.

I am curious what Masau80 thinks of my assessment that its not in tedford s history to give underclassmen a real chance to compete.

Probably the same for the Nevada game too. Even if he did get time to stretch and throw some practice tosses, his mind wasn't prepared mentally to start at QB.

Meh. Backup QB should always be warmed up and mentally ready to come in given the nature of football.

That 15 yard dart AB delivered when he stepped up was better than almost anything ZM did this season. Just makes it so much more infuriating that JT didn't develop a guy that could you know... actually throw a ball.

AB did well in his appearance. Except for his fist pass all were catchable. He is a better passer than ZM despite ZM's experience. And he has some escapability. He is not NL. WHy hasn't he been playing. I don't buy the argument that he is terrible. Imagine how much better he would be with experience.

Bottom line did he impress you more than ZM.
