The more I think about the whole Tosh-gate incident last spring, the less I think it was a big deal. What he probably did that he shouldn't have, was start recruiting Shaq to UDub on his last home visit while still officially on Cal's staff, and standing up poor Tedford at the airport. In the scheme of things, I don't really care that much about those things anymore. Losing the recruits that were loyal to Tosh and not Tedford is what most Cal fans were probably actually angry about -- losing Armstead, Shaq, Payton, McCarthy, etc. All those 4 and 5 star recruits that had long suffering and low expectation-having Cal fans dreaming of that Rose Bowl that Jeff Tedford would finally bring to Cal. But that's all indicative of how valuable Tosh was and how insignificant Tedford was in recruiting.

Anyway, I don't think what Tosh did was worse than Tedford allegedly throwing Tosh under the bus when the whole fake injury scandal came to light. I'm not advocating Tosh for DC or head coach after JT is fired, but I just don't think he really burned his bridges at Cal in retrospect. In the end, it's pretty petty and comical really that Cal fans can still be so bitter about what Tosh did or didn't do last spring. Tosh is a former Cal football player/graduate/coach and did far more for the program than any one on this board has ever done.

Tedford, on the other hand, has brought his short-lived success and turnaround crashing down in the past few years. It will take a couple seasons at least with some good staff to turn things around with recruiting and on the field. I don't even want to think about how much this year's class is going to suck.

Tosh who? To bring him up here means you're not over him yet either. You should have studied human tendencies in med school.

Making a post about him will surely help.

Also, revisionist history can be fun. When Tedford is your whipping boy, Maryland Doctor, surely Tosh's actions must have been somewhat justified.

If Lupoi had stayed, he would be unemployed on Nov. 18th along with the rest of this staff. Aside from future head-to-head recruiting battles with UW, Lupoi and his story become completely irrelevant when a new coach gets here.

College football is a business. Like others have pointed out, defectors at law firms, ad agencies, etc. usually try to take their clients with them to their new gig. Its nothing personal, its just business.

I think you are right: he handled departure very poorly (unethically?) and burst the bubble of a pipe dream class (rose bowl). But the thing that pisses me off is the sense I get that our coaches were jealous of Tosh. How petty and what a damning statement on the stubborn hierarchy even within the ranks--bureaucrats and not innovators.

How are you so certain Tosh left because he was angry at JT?
From what I recall, the outsiders kept offering him money and gifts over many months and he kept refusing their offers. It wasn't until the offers went into the stratosphere that he finally caved.
Where is your evidence for what you claim? Considering the two of you have so much time to post on here constantly, you'd think you'd be able to find some actual evidence for your claims. Like maybe a quote from JT or Tosh. Or maybe some visual evidence. Didn't you see them hug at the end of the game?

No wonder why his name is PURPLE drank. UDumb fan in disguise.

You arent going to start revising history to crack open the door that in the context of discussing a new regime Tosh might become part of that. Its just not going to happen no matter how far in advance you want to start laying that groundwork. Nice try though.
Tosh is a "street" kind of guy if you ever met him hes not what he appears to be ever.

May I most respectfully submit, Tosh is scum. He stole recruits whom he had brought to Cal. This is Mr. Cal screwing his alma mater. While on our payroll, he was steering kids to Udub.

OK, we should forgive and understand him because other coaches do that. That rationale should be abandoned when one leaves 2nd grade. Can we set the bar lower for ethical behavior?

Good riddance, and may karma visit him soon.

It is a good idea to put stuff like Lupoi's actions in the past and to keep them there.

It's an entirely different thing to suggest that others "should get over it." You come across as arrogant, overbearing, and a bully.

Let's be more accurate, it was probably just one kid, Shaq Thompson. The net effect on Cal, is that Cal lost Shaq. All those other kids that defected probably wouldn't have come anyway, especially Ellis McCarthy and Armstead. Who knows about Payton, but he probably would be riding the pine behind Harper anyway this year, and WR is just about the deepest position at Cal now.

I never suggested that. Maybe that played a role, it probably did. But in the end he probably saw a great opportunity at UDub with a lot more pay and so he took it. Besides trying to flip Shaq while officially on Cal's staff and standing up Tedford at the airport (which was in poor taste but not unethical), he didn't really do anything that is a big f___ing deal.

I certainly don't envision him coming back to Cal in the near future, but it wouldn't bother me anymore if he did.

What else is he going to say when trying to recruit players? "Gee, as a former Cal player I can tell you from my personal experience that you can't go wrong with choosing Cal and Tedford"?

And from what I've heard previously, he was using Bigelow as an example of why top recruits shouldn't choose Cal. I would agree with him too, as long as we have a nutter like Tedford as coach who plays Isi over Bigelow and Maynard over any QB on the roster.

It was heard from the insider's insider that other stuff went dow, I think, but don't quote me on this, that even MB said some stufff would never be let out or published. I think Tosh did some really illegal stuff and could have gotten us NCAA violations

You can come up with all the reasons you want for why To$h may have wanted to get back at Tedford, even though To$h might never have even had a coaching job without him. But also doing dirt to and showing basic disloyalty to your alma mater in the process? Screw him.

First of all, losing all those recruits will have a big impact on the next coaching staff's ability to win here. The new staff would have loved to have had all those recruits we lost (I think Armstead and McCarthy were most directly impacted by Tosh's departure, followed by Shaq).

Secondly, one can despise Tosh and also disapprove of Tedford's performance of the past several years. Not mutually exclusive.

And MB is protecting Tosh why? This is classic whisper campaign meant to discredit somebody and it probably comes from the current coaching staff which is trying to save it's own credibility.
