yup....he ruined the Detroit Lions...in fact, since 2000. the 2 teams with the worst records in the NFL are the Oakland Raiders, and Lions at dead last.... Matt knows as much about Cal football as JT knows about coaching...very little.

It's "not an excuse". The top 23 players of the 2 Deep rotations, (Inc kickers) missed a combined 109 gambes. This is the most on t'he conference.

Why would Matt Millen want a former QB as a coach? I would've thought he would be an advocate of a wide receiver as coach.

I haven't seen the recording but,

Matt Millen:
as a player, pretty good.
as a GM, an exercise in comic relief.
as a NFL analyst, pretty good.
as a CFL analyst, sounds like he didn't do any homework and went off the pre-game notes.

A good player. In fact he was one of my favorite ex-aiders. BUT, when it comes to hiring football coaches and drafting football players that would fit his team's system he was one of the worst.

Millen is a football genius, and completely unsentimental when evaluating coaches, even his old college coach. You just can't argue with those four rings.

Indeed, he did. Drafting Harrington was arguably MM's biggest mistake (career damaging mistake). Strange to hear him support JT.

He was critical of us not using Bigelow more, but I guess that's not Tedford's decision but Gould's. Millen may have been hit in the head too many times as a player. Do you know anyone named Bridgewater?

It's pretty clear that Millen hasn't 'watched much film of Cal and had little to no idea who he was talking about. He was just reading from notes others had taken.

And the idea of the injuries being the only reason is laughable. This team is poorly coached and it shows.

It was funny as Millen checked off that list of why to keep Tedford . . . everything he said was the exact opposite of what has really been going on (except for the # of injuries, which is accurate, but hardly an excuse for being 3-8).

I've said it before, I will say it again: its all double-standard crap. Cal "used to be bad" so keep him. Notre Dame, even SC, looses 3 games, and its okay to start a search committee.
So much of the national media, and I have football fan friends here in the East, that don't get being better than what Cal was before Tedford is not the benchmark, HE helped change the benchmark...

And right now Tedford is heading toward the Holmoe benchmark.

The production crew put up a graphic of Tedford's accomplishments. This is at least the second time that a broadcasting crew has spoken out in Tedford's favor although it may be the same crew. We should offer Millen a trade: We get Penn State's Bill O'Brien and his alma mater gets Tedford, straight up.

If you live in talent rich states like CA, FL, & TX and your athletic program continually struggle this is because the school's leadership is either inept or does not care about successful athletics. Thank heaven the TV money today is obscenely large and growing that even the most sports hostile universities see the financial positives to successful college sports.


I agree 100% about the double standard on Cal. The pundits are clueless. If Cal were stuck in the middle of nowhere state I could understand their point but we are in talent deep CA and have a lot of positives to offer (as do the other P12 CA schools) to talented recruits and coaches.

He can't be on multiple broadcasts at the same time. The talking heads from ESPN, ESPNU, PAC 12 network, CSNBA, have all said canning Tedford before next season will just hurt the program.

It's simple. Tedford is one of the good guys. Complete class act. Every talking head in every network knows that they won't get much blowback if they have his back, even if they know he's completely lost it.

Cal isn't Oklahoma, Texas, Florida where this type of asinine defending of Tedford severely hurts the credibility of whoever is doing the defending. If it were then Millen would have over 5k tweets talking shit calling him a hack.

In their mind: Upside, they protect one of the good guys in the coaching ranks. Downside, a dozen nerds on BI get butthurt.
