Offense dictates to defense. Fast tempo offenses get more repetitions in practice and plays in games and as a result are better at execution. Game rules favor more and more a less physical game with more scoring. The advantages are tilted to an offensive focus. Haven't we seen enough of the Ducks to understand where the game is now.
The advantages may tilt to the offense, but good defense is hard to find and wins games. Stanford has a great D and UO has great D (when healthy) and that's why they win. Notre Dame plays great D. It's the reason USC won under Carroll. It's why Alabama wins with Saban. It's why LSU wins with Chavis.
Winning also fills that stadium more than style of play. I'd rather win low scoring games than lose high scoring ones. I imagine I'm not the only one with this attitude.
