Where do you see the hubris on this board that Petersen is ours for the taking? That is what Huskies exhibited [U]on our board[/U] back when they told us Tedford was theirs for the taking because they were such a better program. Some Cal fans justifiably put them in their place.

People here are hopeful we can get Petersen because he is most people's first choice and we have some reasons to hope, but nowhere on this board does anyone think it is even likely. Most of our discussion resolves around other candidates. If anything, Cal fans tend to underestimate the attractiveness of the position but are very reasonable in estimating the difficulty in getting a currently employed head coach to leave their current program.

I remember the biggest controversy was when Cal played Washington in Seattle in 2003, and the Washington players were trolling the Cal players during the game, saying things like "We're going to get your coach," etc. Cal fans were understandably upset when they heard about this, but certainly not "vicious" as you described.

Anyway, back to my original point...if you are looking to make the world a better place, you should first start with addressing the behavioral shenanigans of a large percentage of your own fanbase. I'm not talking about the Ducks who attend or have graduated from UO (they've been fine overall), but rather the bandwagon contingent of Oregonians who have never set foot in any UO building except Matthew Knight Arena or Autzen Stadium.

There's not reason why a motivated AD wouldn't make a trip (a short one at that) to interview a top flight candidate. It's been done before, it will happen again.

I did start a thread saying I thought we would get Petersen. That is just a gut feeling. It is not rooted in some sense that our program/University is unquestionably superior to BSU. Very different schools, very different opportunities. I think what we have is very attractive. Being from Yuba and having achieved what he has at BSU I can see what is also very attractive about staying there. Many have tried to entice him to leave before. I think the factors are aligned for us at this time to lure him away. It is certainly a step up in competition from BSU, but we have a program that is poised to be competitive with all of our conference rivals. I think we can also make it financially attractive decision for him and his family.

I don't see CP to Cal. His agent will tell him to wait for Brown/Saban money. $4 million + a year. And he will get it. Probably from Nike U.

Why would Oregon want to abandon their prolific offense for a completely different one? Internal hire makes the most sense to me.

I think the $4M price tag for Petersen is possible even at Cal. For sure at Tennessee Arkansas or Auburn. I think Cal finds the money for Petersen, but not for anyone else. Petersen may decide Cal is not a good fit (for any number of reasons) but I doubt the reason will be over compensation.

I have heard the money is there for Petersen ($4M) but not for anyone else. That is why we keep hearing about Mac, Dykes, DeRuyter. Because Cal will not pony up for Franklin, Strong or Jones so they appear to be out without even an interview. Don't know that this is true, but given the names we keep hearing about it sounds true enough.

You are not reading me right in this case. This looks to be going according to plan. I would expect this is wrapped up by the end of next week. I just don't think it is going to be CP, that's all. I don't have a problem with that actually. Let's get a coach and get the ball rolling.

In fact, nothing is more important than getting the right coach. If it took Sandy an additional 2-3 weeks then so be it. There is no more important hire for the department than FB HC. You don't want to unnecessarily rush that. And frankly, there doesn't appear to be a need to rush nor any indication that the process isn't being conducted thoroughly and with due dilligence.

Sandy is going to crash that BSU dinner and get some face time with CP. She got advice on how to crash a dinner from these folks:
