The Chron featured this interesting house today: LINK

Only $2 million. I think there are better homes out there though.

I actually saw that like an hour before clicking this thread.

In fact, I love checking out the Chron's real estate porn.

I don't know about that house, though.

How can people live behind so much glass?

I wonder if they'll live in Berkeley, or closeby in the Oakland Hills (like Sandy) or the El Cerrito Hills, or Albany Hills.

Or if they'll do the Conta Costa thing, like Tedford.

I heard there was a house for sale in Blackhawk that features a Cal basketball court.

Exterior is kinda cool. That interior needs work. Maybe I'm jaded by NYC prices but $2 mil seems pretty inexpensive.

Why would Dykes want to live in Berkeley? It's so much nicer and conducive to raising two young girls east of the Caldecott Tunnel.

El Cerrito has a nice hills area? That's awesome. Briefly lived in El Cerrito before quikly feeling disconnected to everything and headed back towards campus. Maybe if I'd had a car I would have liked it better there...

Piedmont works. Good schools, no tunnel.

I used to live 2 blocks from El Cerrito Plaza, and I would go jogging in the El Cerrito hills/Kensington area/Albany and Solano Avenue.

It's very beautiful, like a different world.

There are also deer.

There are actually rational people out there -- with school age children -- who think that suburbs like Orinda SUCK. Some people need more than brain-dead neighbors, golf and lots of greenery for a happy life.

Sonny told me today at the meet and greet before the UNLV game that they have a house picked out in the Berkeley hills with a Bay view near the Claremont. He said they want to be close to campus and part of campus life--plus they like the shops, cafes and restaurants along College Avenue.

Wow! Sounds like he's really familiar with the area.

And the Claremont ain't a bad area.

Did you get a feeling of where he's been to the past few days?

Why would you say brain dead neighbors? You might not like suburbs but to say disparaging things Is so typical Of people who portend to be open minded.

Wow, coach Dykes is going to fit in just fine! looks like Lubbock is definitely out of the picture here...

Just to keep the thread going though, how about this one Calumnus, listing at $1.85M?

It's becoming more and more clear that Sonny and his family really like Berkeley. I think those of us (myself included) who may have initially thought of him as some mercenary who's just using this job as meat for his resume, may be proven wrong.

I thought they were younger.

According to the LA Tech site (and Wikipedia), his daughters were born in 2008 and 2011.

It's one thing to coach some of the 47%, but to actually have to stop at a crosswalk to let them pass, we'll, it is just SO demeaning.

A Walter Ratcliff house......some Big C history....elegant family home.
Classic Berkeley, leaded and stained glass, lots of wood, big kitchen, large front and back yard, walk to Peet's and.......CMS/SAHPC.

Also, the first house to sell for over a million bucks in Berkeley.
Possibly park 8-10 cars.

No Bay View, no guest parking, no yard to play, got to drive to get any where.
Classic "right on the street", on the side of a hill, big house.

Chron printed that Dykes bought a house in Berkeley.....
Coincidentally, there's a certain Walter Ratcliff that has vanished from the available Berkeley real estate pool.

My 2 cents just went way up.

47%? Are you talking about the Asian students enrolled on campus?
