Wow he counted how many words Clancy spoke to him? Clancy definitely did not look like a talkative type. So you have two non-talkative guys pretty much leading the team (Tedford and Clancy). Anyway, this is good that Gabe sounds like he's all in and he wants to give it his best shot. He needs to get McCain to go all-in as well.

This is the reason you go to Cal, to have this happen in your life. Anything he does on the field is gravy. We always hope Cal Football will be a win-win. For them and for us, but they come first. You've got the first win Gabe, now go get the second!

I've always gravitated towards guys who are here for the education just as much as the opportunity to play, like Avery and Matt Cochran. That list just got longer. Glad he's really getting a chance to see the world differently because of being here.

He certainly mentions some of the things that make Cal great -- happy to see.
Hope that things work out better for Gabe with the new coaching staff than with the old one and he gets a chance to show his talents on the field as well as benefit from a Cal education.

Sounds like he has grown a lot as a person in his time here. I wish him luck as his Cal career continues to unfold.

These student athletes are dealing with challenges that are a whole lot different than most of us experienced at college. I think that we need to be reminded of that from time to time. I hope that Gabe is successful in all his endeavors. Sounds like a very articulate and thoughtful young man.

Always glad when players seem to fully grasp the enormous opportunity they have been presented with, off the field. The point of everything we do here as an institution is to grow into the best you, sounds like he gets it.

Gabe King you are a STUD. You optimize what a STUDENT-athlete is. You represent everything good about collegiate sports. Unlike the punks at ohio st who questioned why they had to go to class. Thanks again for choosing cal on reasons not 100% related to football.

Such an awesome post by Gabe. He was given an opportunity to study at the best university out there and is running with it. I have a feeling he'll run through a wall for our new coach and look forward to watching him do it! Regardless of what happens on the football field - I'll be a proud co-alum of GK.

Yeah, really impressed with his frank and well thought out and written statement. Sounds like he has really had a college experience at Cal outside of football, and will be one to graduate with a degree that actually represents a lot of hard work and personal and academic growth. It's pretty awesome actually.

I already like him more than the rest of the North Carolina crew.

I agree. He really loves CAL. Everything about cal. Can't say that about KA or ZM. I'm not sure about McCain.
