OK, it's not a college. It's a high school in Traverse City, Michigan, but a cool mascot, nonetheless.

My favorite for a long time was the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.

But this thread reminded me of the Sorority Powder Puff League during my stay at Cal. Most teams just used their Sorority Greek names. But the Dorm Team, where I lived (Unit I), needed a name, they were "I Eta Pi". And they won.

I agree, that video is pretty awesome. No evidence that the creative team was holding anything back on that video.


Some schools also seem to miss an opportunity when it is staring them right in the face. William and Mary recently voted on a new mascot (they didn't like "The Tribe" for politically correct reasons), and the Fighting Asparagus was a finalist.

Okay, I realize this is about college names, but here is my favorite team name, the Richland High School Bombers from Richland, Washington, near the Hanford nuclear lab. When it comes to dueling mascots, this one can beat all comers (unless, perhaps there is a team of cockroaches somewhere).
