Given the relative history of success of former U$C Trojans (or definite lack thereof .... see Sanchez, Marinovich, Leinart, Booty, etc) .... I would say anyone who can play QB will or can be better

Still think Barkley may be drafted third though the three I mentioned would be my choices and may also consider Tyler Bray (big upside) and K Price (long shot to be drafted ahead of MB) because NFL teams may want a mobile QB if offenses evolve in the NFL to utilize mobile QBs more--see RJ

Dont think Boyd would get drafted before Barkley. Barkley will be either first or second QB drafted

QB's that will have a better QB career than Barkley:

1) Everyone else in 2013 Draft

USC quarterbacks have been overrated in the past--true.

However, I am inclined to say that Barkley is being underrated, given where people are projecting him to go right now.

I think he gets drafted in the top half of the first round (I can see the Jets taking a stab at him). But I think he'll end up being an average at best QB.

Why would jets take a stab at him when there are 3 other qb rated ahead of him?

I'm sure the Jets are tired of Sanchez to the point that they're not going to gamble with another $C QB.

Tebow not returning, Sanchez likely gone too.

Add Joe McFumble as another former U$C player that the Jets probably regret giving up a draft choice and any amount of money

Heck, I would swear off them forever

Maybe in the 2nd not in the 1st. That had enough of of Sanchez and won't be taking another USC qb in the first round

I can tell you right now that Taj Boyd is by far and away the best prospect I've seen this year and it's not even close. Murray didn't impress me that much, and I'm pretty skeptical about Barkley. I wouldn't draft him before the 3rd round that's for sure. Geno didn't seem that strong mentally to me, but I'd look at him before Barkley and Murray. Boyd looks like another RG3 to me.

No way Boyd is another RG3. This draft class is really weak in the quarterback department. Kind of unfair to judge them with last years which might end up being one of the best QB classes ever (I mean come on - Luck, RG3, Wilson all led their teams to the playoffs...in their FIRST year).

But yes, Zach Maynard will get drafted before Barkley. His brother Keenan will demand for Zach to start or else he wont play a down for them.

Boyd impressed the hell out of me against LSU. Pressure throws. Scrambling. Toughness. Composure. Easily IMO a better prospect than Barkley. He shows everything Barkley doesn't when the o line can't hold up. Geno Smith...has had some BIG swings. I wonder if he's got a "ceiling". Murray looks most "pro style" to me but that's a tougher road to hoe.

Barkley showed that under pressure he's mediocre at best this year. You don't draft guys like that high. Unless his mental composure changes (possible) he's like Jim Everett to me. A guy who can throw bullets when he's untouched (anyone remember his game with flipper Anderson against the saints back in the day) but when he got hit and the pocket crumbled he earned the knickname (thank you Jim Rome) "Chrissy" Everett

Completed 60.8% of his passes in 2012.

Other Cal QB's:
2012 Bridgford 45.6%
2011 Bridgford 40.6%
2010 Mansion 48.9%
2010 Riley 60.0%
2009 Riley 54.7%
2009 Sweeney 55.6%
2008 Longshore 56.7%
2008 Riley 50.7%
2007 Longshore 59.9%
2006 Longshore 60.2%
2005 Ayoob 49.2%

Amazingly, Zach Maynard in 2012 completed a higher percentage of his passes than any Cal starting QB since Aaron Rodgers in 2004. Better than any year of Longshore or Riley.

Barkley can throw bullets? when did that happen? I'm going to peg him as a Carson Palmer with a much weaker arm.

No Everett could. Barkley is ok arm strength though. I don't think he will get "dinged" for a weak arm. He will/should get "dinged" for not showing....cajones for a lack of a better way to put it

let's not be totally biased here--barkley will likely be the 1st or 2nd QB off the board.

he's not overrated like the other USC QBs with solid teams. We can't say (at the same time) that USC sucks this year and also say that Barkley is overrated because he's surrounded by a bevy of talent (which was true of the previous USC QBs). Unless you're completely pinning USC's woes this yr on Barkley himself.

I always thought picking on Maynard was a bit overstated given the other QBs we had. Man, that is one ugly record post-AR.

Well, Barkley did regress this year in %, yardage, TDs, and INTs thrown, all the while having Lee and Woods to throw to. And he does throw too many INTs, IMO...It's a weak QB draft, so I can see Barkley going in the last half of the 1st round, but all it takes is a team with a crappy QB to step up and reach (Ponder? Locker?)

He pretty much stopped throwing to Woods. M lee was his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice. Those $C people have a conspiracy theory also. They believe that they were trying to give M Lee more exposure for the coming Heisman. Woods was/is pissed by his comments. Of course he is declaring. They shafted him. Another Kiffin a$$ move
