As I recall coaches are in their offices VERY early in the morning, as faxed
LOI's.... some of them, arrive VERY early.
and if we are looking for an LOI from someone midwest/east? they do theirs of course early...

and many arrive in Berkeley mid morning?

who knows this year

An offer can go to anyone who hasn't signed an LOI ... a few don't sign on LOI day.

very few and usually only 2 and 3 star players who are still hoping for their dream school to have an opening. It's extremely rare for a 4 or 5 star recruit to hold out and not sign initially.

very rare ... just a general response to the question.
Wonder if we dare hope for a Conte surprise ... probably not.

Signs for something good to close out the recruiting season are not good. While we won't "know" til Tuesday it's looking like a relatively poor close to the 2013 recruiting season for cal sd and crew. Ok. I'll give em a flyer for this year. Tough situation and they did address some depth and academic issues. But frankly if we don't see something better for 2014 (again tough with probably restricted number of spots--not many graduates) we are gonna have issues becoming a real contender for the rose bowl.

There is also this thing called "coaching." Maybe the coaches can coach up the talent and win games??? Plenty of talent on the roster for that.

currently yes. Here I completely agree. The roster is not a 3-9 roster. It's a much better team than that.

what to tell you ... decent job no hold over staff ... new offense new defense new era... blame jeffery tedford for not stepping down after the tx bowl game and going 3 and fricking 9 that set the recruiting foundation for sonny and his crew .. they had yet to build any relationships with old commits nor new prospects not to mention the roster players

maybe the word spoiled comes to mind we were looking at avg recruiting of 35-45 now nowhere near that ...

grade for this class is looking like depending on how wed pans out b+/b thru b-/c+ and I reserve the right to revise down the line ie spring game fall game first 3 games of 2013 yes i said it

there is enough talent on this team to compete ... depth is an obvious issue ... gotta sit back and see ... if we lose a starter in 2013 and one or a few of these " poor recruiting class" commits shines EAT IT and if they become solid students and help the team win on the field as well in the class room / finishing getting degree you can still eat it

This will be 2 poor defensive recruit classes in a row. That is a big hole in the roster regardless of the way you want to spin it.

gloom and doom

spin it any negative way that makes you feel good.

If we can get another db or 2 from any possibilities then I am ok with this D class. Not excited. Not happy. Ok.

Stupid question . . . Do LOI's still come in via FAX? Seems a little old school. I envision the rolled up fax paper from back in the day. Tell me they at least scan and email.

I am just counting roster slots. If you stopped pumping for a minute you would notice we have barely enough scholarship safeties to fill out the two deep. There is a lot of work to be done on the D side of the ball.

rated 22nd by scout, 23rd by rivals and 28th in the nation by espn. Coming off a 3-9 year with zero tradition, last major bowl game in 1959, what are some of you complaining about?
Big facility upgrade just gets us even with majority of D1 programs, this is not a program where any coach is going to come in and sign a top10 class. Sonny and crew are doing a good job. We lost Hunt but picked up Bunte, we may lose Ragin to the home team, not end of the world problems. Get a grip and lets see what the season holds in store and lets see what next years class looks like

Remember, Davison--probably an OLB-- committed right after Ragin's defection to Cal. So, if he changes his mind once again, no big loss.

If you go by average rating per player they're actually 45th on scout. That's with Hunt though, without him they're probably not in the top 50.

Give us one positive post. Can you give a compliment to anything in the football program??? Is there a player you like? A favorite game the Bears won? Anything?

Yes, of course. I actually think we'll get to a bowl game this year as I believe the current team has good talent. It just wasn't coached very well last year and Dykes is an upgrade as a coach, since it seemed Tedford had become a bit stale after over a decade.

Most of the topics now are on recruiting though since signing day is coming up so I've just been talking about that.

exactly. Why are we loading up this class with wac type players. IMHO, I would rather have 22 in this class; not offer some of the players committed that have no other pac 12 offers. Or make a few of them come on as preferred walk ons and see how they progress before offering a scholly. I hope they all do well but this class looks shaky.

Yes, I don't understand loading up on players when our recruiting streed cred is at a nadir.

There's a post-LOI session with Sonny and MB (you can find the thread).
Presentations of the recruits and videos of them will be shown.
Go to it, make your comments and ask your questions during the Q&A session.
Making comments here are barely worth the bandwidth.

Agreed. Plus we are going to run at a fast pace, to do that we need depth. The effort is to be as good as possible now. We need to win NOW to recruit better in the future. Sc has shown that you can just upgrade talent level with small classes if demand for a scholarship is high (i.e. you have a winning program). So the effort is to get guys in now (even for Spring) to help us this Fall. If we do well, things will take care of themselves, we will bring in a relatively small class of highly rated recruits next year.

There is no Wed. "cut off" time...its the beginning of the LOI signing period, not the end...I think that would correspond with when "regular" students have to commit, but I'm not certain. The urgency about the day is sort of "self-created"-blaming it on the media is an over simplification, so i won't,lol...

If we also lose Ragin I think we are at 26. Assuming all the 3*4*5* guys are gone, do we just go with 26 or do we then offer the best 2* guys available and to hell with the ranking. Seeing the discussions on some of the successful 2*'s we've had it just makes sense to try to find these guys. What's the downside? A drop in the recruit class ranking? Who really cares, or if they do, why? Results matter to me.

We desperately need a couple of safeties and probably another OL or two. Hunt is gone. I hope the best for him but I'm not convinced Hinnant will recover enough from all his injuries to meet his pre-crash potential.

Let's max out the class with the best players available and let the coaches do their magic.
