Fair or unfair -- Forcier was perceived to be an entitled brat who had a lot of athletic talent. Good fit for furd. Bridgford doesn't seem to fit either description.

Forcier was not applying to grad school. He had also beat out Denard Robinson the year before. Not a good comparison.

I was mostly trying to get a dig in on Stanford, which claims to have high academic standards for athletes and "never" takes transfers, because they took a guy without great character and a low GPA (high school too) as a transfer.

The point being, GPA is not a barrier if a school wants you for football--even Stanford, thus the critical piece in the whole equation is what schools want Bridgford for football. That will determine if he has a good shot at playing time and if they can get him in their grad program.

My point, which Colorado apparently respectfully disagrees (which is fine--this is not either of our decisions), is once you have those programs lined up, I would choose based on the grad program, because football playing time is not a sure thing (though any school that wants you thinks you have a shot at playing time), but the grad degree is--and if you are going to attend school and get a degree, it might as well be a good one.

That is why he chose Cal after all and I don't think he regrets that decision.

Its always sad to see one of our players leave the program under not the best circumstances, but it sounds like he truely enjoyed his time here and will always be a Golden Bear.

Truely spoken.

From the Chronicle last night; didn't see this quoted elsewhere:
Quote:

By Ron Kroichick

Quarterback Allan Bridgford announced Monday that he is leaving Cal's football program and will transfer to another school before the 2013 season.

Bridgford was the only experienced quarterback among those competing for the starting job under new head coach Sonny Dykes. When it became apparent Bridgford would not earn the job he was getting fewer repetitions in recent spring practices than Austin Hinder, Zach Kline and Jared Goff Bridgford took a few days to contemplate his future.

He might land at UC Davis, where former Cal running backs coach Ron Gould is now the head coach. Bridgford, a senior with one season of eligibility remaining, wouldn't have to sit out if he transfers to a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) school such as UC Davis.

"I was recruited by former coach Jeff Tedford to play quarterback in a pro-style offense that was tailored to my strengths, which are my abilities to make all the throws, my decision making and my leadership," Bridgford said in a press release issued by Cal on Monday afternoon.

"As the team's most experienced quarterback, I expected to take the majority of reps this spring. But after having limited reps in the first four spring practices, I met with both offensive coordinator Tony Franklin and head coach Sonny Dykes. It was made clear to me that they had decided to go in a different direction. Therefore, it is time to move on and find a school where I can play right away and hopefully for two seasons if I'm granted a sixth year of eligibility.

"I love Cal, my teammates and brothers, our fans and the program. I made many of my best friends for life here. Without a doubt I plan to graduate from Cal this summer. Go Bears!"

Bridgford played in 10 games with three starts (all in 2012) during four seasons at Cal. He completed 44-of-100 passes for 461 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

"We wish Allan all the best both on the football field and in the classroom," Dykes said. "He is a quality quarterback (who) should have success in an offense suited for his skill set. His contributions to Cal football over the past four years are appreciated, and we are pleased that he has decided to graduate from Cal this summer."

Dykes released Cal's first depth chart of the spring Monday, but he offered no clarity at quarterback. The starter was listed as Goff, Hinder or Kline.

Judging from his comments, it sounds like he thought his seniority gave him an edge over the others.

This was Tate Forcier's oldest brother, Jason, that was at Stanford (never played). He was probably the closest to normal of the three brothers, with Tate being the worst; kicked out of one high school for cheating, home schooled and played for a school of opportunity, left Michigan after being declared academically ineligible (big surprise there), thought about going to Miami, then enrolled briefly at SJSU - missed all his classes... determined that he could turn pro (out of high school long enough), signed by Toronto (CFL) and cut a few weeks later. Whereabouts today, unknown!

Maybe he can back up Nick Montana at Tulane or Tony Montana in Miami.

at least he won't be backing up Maynard at the dept of welfare and support services.

Good luck to AB and future congrats for getting his degree this summer.

Oops! Do I detect a certain bias in you when it comes to some Cal football players who leave the program??? :rollinglaugh:

The bias comes from Bridgford stinking it up for Cal for only two games instead of the greater part of two seasons like Maynard (despite Maynard's "outplaying" Andrew Luck in that great Big Game loss... err, moral victory).

Oh well, good luck to Bridgford in his future endeavors, whether it includes a Cal diploma or not. He certainly paid his dues by staying with Tedford for three years without getting much reward, although at least he did get his chance to start and finish two games.

More than just the school-hopping, Tate was a douchebag for setting up a website full of puffery like this.. Yes he was only in high school, but still..

"Well, Bob, when I got pressure, I will usually make the play."

are you kidding, that's my favorite part! In fact I edited my resume so the summary was "Most fvcking awesome guy ever is looking to grace deserving company with his presence," and added Tate's disclaimer: "Note to old people: All resumes talk about the author".

Please DO-NOT misinterpret or spin my intent. I'm absolutely trying to be as arrogant as possible on this resume. But if you think I'm arrogant, you are just old.

I wish Allan the very best. Sorry it didn't work out for him here.
