99.99% of the US is not British, but I bet when the Queen dies or when what's her name gives birth, it'll totally takeover cable news.

As for the pope, he's a powerful and influential world leader, so of course it's going to get a lot of coverage.

Oh, and it doesn't happen very often. Who knows? The next one of these might not take place until 2040s.

Until the hierarchy of the Catholic Church issues a public statement of apology acknowldeging that the reason the child rape crisis grew exponentially is because of the across the board institutional response of shifting pedophile priests from parish to parish like so many peas in a shell game, I can't even bring myself to watch or read anything about these current goings on. As a Catholic, I actually find the publicity embarrassing.

Only the Assistant Pastor, who "handled" the alter boys ( I didn't make the cut! ), at my elementary school, and seven of the priests at my high school, were we're later outed as KNOWN pedophiles. You paint with a rather large brush!

Man, coming to Berzerkeley after that crap was a bit of a culture shock.

I was an altar boy at my parish for 5 years. The pastor was a macho decorated Army chaplain in WWII. Under his watch no one was molested. 30 years later it became public that one of the assistant priests during my era was a serial molester. He never acted out at my childhood parish because he must have figured the pastor would have gutted him and buried him behind the rectory.

I have to admit, I thought highly of them all at the time.

I also had a youth group counsellor who everyone knew was a little funny. On his front porch, he shot and killed an older brother of a kid he had molested who was confronting him. Justifiable homicide.
