Saw this on ESPN. Kobe wishes Cal's women's basketball team good luck and thanks them for letting him use our facilities. The Lakers were in town with a game against the Warriors last night.

Very cool! Our previous training facility would not have been on the radar! Hopefully a treat for anyone else who was working out at the time.

Doesn't he have four years of eligibility left?

Wouldn't that pissoff UCLA?

Why would Kobe come all the way over to Berkeley just to use the bathroom?

That would be funny...does the NCAA have rules against former NBA players playing in college, who are eligible? Would be funny to have retiring NBA players come back to dominate the college ranks.

he might be able to play baseball or football...

but if he's made money for playing basketball, he can't play NCAA basketball.

ah interesting. seeing that most pro athletes are 2-sport prodigies anyways, they could easily move to another sport and dominate.

kobe as cal's qb? kobegloff?

I don't know if it happens that often. Lots of times they play the 2 sports concurrently.

I do remember that Chris Weinke played baseball for many years in the minors before going to Florida State to be a QB in his mid to late 20's.

I think Kobe would be allowed to run in a touchdown during a college football spring game.

I saw him (them) at their walk-through at the Olympic Club gym in S.F. yesterday morning. Doubt they went to Berkeley after that...

Or more close to home, Cal walk-on Joey Mahalic

We should bestow an honorable degree on him - maybe something like criminal justice?

And perhaps a minor in women's studies?

Jay Schroeder was drafted 3rd overall by the Toronto Blue Jays and played a year of minor league ball before enrolling at UCLA and eventually having an NFL career.

John Elway played summers in the Yankees farm system and received a pretty big paycheck before his 1982 senior season in football (before going pro he played right field and I even saw him pitch a game against the Bears at Evans).

After he was drafted #1 by Irsay and the Colts, Elway used the threat of playing baseball instead to force the Colts to trade his rights--initially to his good friend Al Davis and the L.A. Raiders. However, NFL Commissioner Pete Rozell, who hated Al Davis, declared the trade "not in the best interest of football"--the only time this has ever been done by a NFL commissioner--and the Colts instead traded his rights to Denver.
