I really struggled with the first 30 pages or so. Not crazy about the voice. Should I hang in there?Big C said:
Recently finished best-seller "Demon Copperhead", by Barbara Kingsolver. Highly recommend.

I am so thrilled to share that you can now pre-order my new book, "Second Class: How the Elites Betrayed America's Working Men and Women," which comes out on April 2. I cannot wait for you to meet the incredible Americans who shared their stories with me.https://t.co/e1TMS3Z4ZW

Just an awesome book, by a unique author. Bump. Speaking of authors, anything by James Elroy or "Elmore Leonard" is likely to be a very good read.KenBurnski said:
Can't believe it took a throwaway comment from comedian Artie Lange to make me check this book out. Pretty sure Ignatius was my Poli Sci 3 GSI.
one of my all time favorites. I'm easily distracted but this captivated me.. wrote a paper on Garp as well in comp lit after surviving subject A . Got a B+ after sucking. Only takes one teacher . Maybe I'll find a paper back in Maine to indulgewifeisafurd said:Just an awesome book, by a unique author. Bump. I enjoyed The Wager--I like a good survival story. I also read The Lost City of Z, which I enjoyed. There is something about explorers that captivate me. What is also interesting about The Lost City of Z is that, after all these years, the ancient cities Percival Fawcett was looking for are being discovered through lidar technology.wifeisafurd said:

Real page turner. I could not get through Gann's other famous book, Killers of the Flower Moon, because it was impossible to follow. IMO, the movie went the opposite direction and told you everything up front so there was very little reason to watch the 3.5 hours of boredom. Hopefully the movie on The Wager (another Scorsese/DiCaprio movie) in early production is a much better movie. A less known Gann book, The Lost City of Z ,is a good read.

Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos and The Wire to Ma d Men and Breaking Bad$18.80Amazon.com
Martin was able to have an insider's look how TV changed from a network "vast wasteland" to the way content is now delivered, and thereby completely disrupt the economic model for making movies due to a new breed of anti-heroes that emerged from the debut of the Sopranos onwards to the "showrunners", the "all-powerful" writer-producers behind them, changing TV forever. The first chapter starts with an eye opening account of Gandalfni literally falling apart mentally and engaging in physical self-harm, in order to be able work himself up for his ground-breaking scenes, and goes high voltage from there. A nice high wire act.
In the New York Times, some very kind words about the legacy of Difficult Men, ten years on, along with my reflections on where we've come since then. https://t.co/dXDhm43J1k

For @MensHealthMag, I spoke with @brettmartin about DIFFICULT MEN’s new 10-year edition, the writer’s strike, and much, much more: https://t.co/RlFlc1hhoP

A fun Hollywood book I read some years ago was The Fixers--about the guys who swooped in to squelch Hollywood star scandals before they became public--from sex scandals, pregnancies, suicides and even murders.wifeisafurd said:Given your focus on Hollywood and media, you may want to read this:okaydo said:
