They feel "of a piece" with what most would consider the "classic" Cal uniform (the 80s/90s version).
I don't see that at all. Basically this is a continuation of the Tedford era uniform concept. Take the Tedford uniforms, make the helmets matte, revise the markings a little bit, change the font a little bit, add a barely visible bear on the sleeve and pants. From afar they look the same as Tedford's uniforms, the main visible difference is the matte helmet. The gold shirt option is still there. Beyond that, from the pictures it looks like they are still going to do the mix and match on the shirts and pants. I don't see anything 80s/90s about this. Not that I'm unhappy because frankly, other than the all yellows and the white helmets, I preferred the recent uniforms to the old ones.
My issue is having a whole ad campaign, bringing in former stars to try and build excitement with the payoff being a long, boring, marketing pitch instead of an exciting unveiling. Then after half an hour of blah blah blah...brand...blah blah..font...blah blah...unify...blah blah brand again...(during which I'm sure they lost half the audience who figured they could see pictures later), it's and now the moment you've all been waiting for, here are the uniforms that look almost exactly like last years. The technical problems were just the icing on the cake.
Why can't the administration EVER display the excellence that our student body and faculty do every day. Geez, another embarassing face plant.
