The new logo says "Intelligence"

I think I am like most on the board: the new uniform is decent though a little flash, don't like modified block C, and hate the new Bear.

That aside, I must comment that the presentation was awkward and poorly organized--with abysmal camera and AV. How do you not have the whole line up turn around and show the side and back of the uniforms when the whole point is to show them off?

I thought the "branding" speak was embarrassing. A lot of canned, committee speak that comes out of a BS pitch presentation. The line that got the biggest eye roll was Sandy saying that the new bear logo spoke to "intelligence". Really? How? Other than wishful thinking or the desire that the Cal identity represent intelligence, how does that actual picture say intelligence? Is the bear growling in latin? Are the jagged edges a statistical graph that solves the world's population problem? Does each claw represent a Noble prize winner?

I think if anything the bear logo and perhaps the new branding in its entirety says "trend follower", "not-unique", "catering to unsophisticated aesthetic"... I mean I don't despise the work, but if anything we threw our hats in with a less intelligent demographic and colleges and didn't separate ourselves as elite or uncommon or as somehow more intelligent. And the Nike binder that accompanied the designs isn't going to convince me otherwise.

+1 ... I think that rather than the "bear" growling, it's more like Nike is laughing at Cal ... and they got rid of the traditional Big C logo ... clever job by Nike to make Cal's "brand" look foolish if not stupid.
Sandy's "presentation" was well-supported by the A/V ... foolish to stupid.

I'm fine with the changes, but agree that the presentation, per the feed, was horrible. It wasn't just amateur, it was actually terrible. I hope we can just pass along the blame to the PAC 12 network and not us. Though I think Sandy should watch it and see just how ridiculous it all looked.

I didn't realize how literally the new logo said "intelligence" until I saw this closeup

Outstanding! We are Cal. In years past we have always been the leaders but, sad to say, we have become followers. Thanks Sandy, Brand This!

As I recall, and yes the stream was a poor production, so maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I think Sandy simply stated that bears are intelligent animals. If so, by most accounts, that is true...

I am pretty sure that she espoused the Golden Bears attributes and then switched to the logo and said this says intelligence...I don't remember the other two adjectives (ferocity?).

Pretty sure it was 'virililty'. It's not captured in the secondary logo, but the yet to be publicized tertiary version has a huge package hanging between its legs.

I see. The Nike branding recommendation: intelligence, ferocity, and virility.

Can we stop with the criticism of the presser? No one, and I mean no one, watched that thing outside of uniform dorks and a small group of fans who are over represented on this board. Criticize the uniforms all you want, they are a recurring representation of our football team and university, but no one outside of these hallowed boards will ever speak to the presser or all the talk about branding.

Sometimes I wonder if people realize how little most of this stuff matters to the rest of the world (including college football fans).

+1 Nothing unique about it. As for Sandy, she's just playing the script given her since Nike is Cal's sponsor.

Otherwise, methinks the mucked up audio during the presentation was there to cover up lines like "intelligence" and the inevitable choke, cough, laughter.

If "intelligence" really was the intend, perhaps Cal should go with a blue patch with the number 70 (or the real #) on top of a replica Nobel medal. (that's a joke...but it would **** off a few)

What a pathetic, small-minded attitude.

Someone should lose their job over the embarrassment of that presentation. Can you imagine that happening in the private sector? LOL... Johnson & Johnson unveils a new syringe design and...woops, can't hear the CEO! FloRida is on too loud! And why worry about starting on time??

There wasn't a single close up of the helmet, and not a single player wearing either of the two most likely uniform combinations--the combinations in which we've seen the most success in the past 25 years. They wasted a good valuable hour of every Cal fan who logged in to support the school. Ridiculous... I'm sorry you don't have higher standards for your school...

With all due respect, I think yours might be the small-minded and (your word) pathetic attitude. When the team next takes the field, the fans in the stands will say "Go Bears!" and some of them will go "hey, new unis" and a few will think "They look a little better than I expected" and pretty much nobody will say "I still can't get over that the press conference didn't start on time."
