In the last year (last 6 months really), I lost 27.6lbs (and am shooting for 10 more.), after gaining 30 in the last several.

In the next year (in 3 months) I am getting married, and also Northwestern, Ohio State, and Dykes!

I always said after 21 birthdays were meaningless markers of just getting old, but these two are/should be pretty good. How come no one told me that life gets so good?

Go bears!

Happy birthday!

Sometimes I wonder how long I'll live given my not-so-healthy lifestyle -- well, I do bike and walk a lot.

My dad turned 87 this month (born the same month as Hugh Hefner and Queen Elizabeth II).

He's healthy and his mind is sharp.

He's the same age as Mad Men's Don Draper, who turns 87 in June.*

(*Dick Whitman turned 87 in December.)

But instead of growing up in the 60s like the Mad Men kids, I was born when Jimmy Carter was president, when my dad was in his early 50s.

I wonder if I'll still be alive in 50+ years like my dad.

Speaking of Don Draper, my favorite quote of his is (approximately):

"Peggy, you're 26. It's time to get over birthdays."

Phantomfan, congrats on the good events in your life, but I think they just stand alone and are not connected with birthdays. So, I may send you a cyber-bottle of champagne for your wedding, but no cyber-cupcake for your birthday.

Go Bears!

Congrats and happy birthday. As one of the elder statesmen here (turned 66 in January), I can say that it does continue to improve as you realize the small sh*t is just that and nothing more.

btw, a question I've always wanted answered: is your handle because you are just a phantom (an inchoate fan of the Bears) or a fan of the Phantom (50's cartoon strip, also known as ghost-who-walks)?

She is.

Little Northwestern story; My good friend went to Northwestern and, because I lived in Reno, got hims employer to send him to the Northwestern Nevada game (as long as he had his own place to stay). So, naturally I had dinner with him.

Unfortunately for her, it was the day she agreed to have our first real date after two weeks of me pestering her.

He asked if I was going to stay in Reno, or where I wanted to live, and I said, "where ever she wants to live."

So, yeah, Northwestern has been part of the story from about day 1. My first post is even funnier in that context, though.
