Why don't they come out and put up a $25 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of.. like they did for OBL? The Boston public safety unions are offering $50K.

they may, but 9/11 was a lot more catastrophic than the boston marathon bombing. the impact of that was used as the main motivation for us to invade two countries and conduct numerous ops in countries that wanted us no where near their territory.

Plus OBL was wanted by us for a long time, even prior to 9/11.

That kind of reward would mean a great deal more to us than to some anonymous Afghani. Where would he spend it? Would he deposit it some bank run by Hamid Karzai? I imagine it wouldn't be safe from outstretched hands for very long.

Perhaps Phil Knight and Bill Gates can pool their resources and get this hunt over with fast.

I'm guessing that almost anybody, if they knew anything, would tell the authorities for free, right? That is, if the perp was a "lone wolf"., a Ted Kazynski (sp?) type. In fact, I bet this will happen in the next few days.

Those that are driven to use such horrendous acts as public bombings are usually driven by ideology. The prospect of a money reward does not sway them.

Budget sequester.

But seriously, they hate paying out those rewards anyway, like the ones who claimed the reward for info about the ex-LAPD cop who was killed in the cabin a month or so ago.

9/11 resulted in the destruction of the Twin Towers and death of thousands. The Boston Marathon resulted in 3 deaths. Apples and oranges.

Because we're used to mayhem, hence the price drops

After further reflection: 25 mil ain't chump change. The authorities are pretty sure they'll be able to catch the perp(s) eventually, even w/o a reward. If, in a week or so, they change their minds, they always have the possibility of the big reward.

People who set these bombs so that they would do the most harm (with shrapnel) must be part of a political movement. Nothing but a crazed theory about life and government could motivate them to engage in this kind of crime.

Crazed theory, yes. But not necessarily part of a movement. Timothy McVeigh was a lone wolf more or less (had an accomplice). Ditto, Kaszinski.

You forgot the elephant in the room -- religion.

religion? right. you should read some Tim Wise.
definitely more insightful than the banal & trite attempt at blaming religion for terrorism.

http://www.timwise.org/2013/04/terrorism-and-privilege-understanding-the-power-of-whiteness/

also searching for a great article on atheism, technology, and conflict, which thoroughly debunks claims of religion being somehow the causation of such bombings.

One guy in custody, the other at large. Lots of gunfire and reports of bombs hurled at officers.

The sh*t is going down.

Also, a guy's apartment receives a bullet hole during an exchange of gunfire between officers and the assailant who was in another unit.

Calendar in photo (Oregon vs. Colorado):

What I'm following on computer (aside from MSNBC on tv): Gawker updates and random Twitter feeds, including Boston Globe, who are saying it's official that one of the suspects in the marathon bombing is in custody.

BPD confirming link between earlier killing of MIT campus cop, and these two guys and that they are suspects in
marathon . One still at large

internet has proven to be incredibly valuable in identifying suspect #2.

suspect #1 has been identified as Mike Mulugeta?

suspect #2 confirmed to be that missing student. family's youtube video asking for his safe return.

edit: update: nbc is offering conflicting info re #2, saying missing student is not connected to the bombing.

The parents have apparently taken down a Facebook page about their missing son. If the son is, in fact, involved in the bombing, the video above is incredibly sad and freaking surreal, as these people have no idea what horrible stuff this person has been up to.

BB99, listening to that now. #1 trending item on Twitter right now is 89 Dexter. This is the house where a suspect is thought to be holed up RIGHT NOW.

Just announced first suspect had an explosive device on him. Second may have one on him too.

not even debatable there, neighbors were filming the shootout and posting it on youtube minutes after. no way news services can compete with that.

CNN is about 2 hours behind the radio scanner with incorrect info. 4Chan is insufferable, what with all of the conspiracy nuts there who think this is about getting gun control in place.

They keep showing footage of the guy laying on the floor as the suspect even though it was proven that guy was a hostage.

Now theyre just repeating a video with sounds of the gun battle. No updates on the ID or the suspect setting off a sensor motion alarm or the bomb the first suspect was wearing (all reported on reddit off of the police scanners an hour ago)
