It's a long offseason but did anyone wake up and feel like Cal just lost a huge game after last night's episode? This is why I hate the color RED.

At about 7 pm on Twitter, people started saying Oh. My. God.

Which was my cue to get off it.

I usually avoid Twitter on Sunday nights for Mad Men spoilers.

But I wish I didn't know that something shocking was going to happen.

Which made what happened less shocking.

Because it was the end of the episode, the bride was too good-looking, everybody was too happy.

Anyways, they were 3 important but boring characters. So goodbye!

I have not read the books but my wife has. She had this weird grin during the wedding; I had no idea why at the time. She was just waiting for my jaw to drop.

Book 3 was the best. And we are only one half thru it......

Didn't like the deviation from the book, where Rob's wife attending the wedding - although she doesn't really play a role after Book#4. More surprises to come!

I liked it. It made sure scene had max impact even if you had read the book

I knew what was coming but my wife didn't. She was gasping the whole time. I like the way they played the whole scene with the "Rains of Castamere" and other things. Overall, the show is very well done

Since the book series isn't finished (although supposedly the tv writers and directors know the endgame), I have a sneaky suspicion that G Martin is going to release things along with the show to keep everyone on edge ... But wio knows

Hmm, Catelyn Stark didn't scratch her face hideously as in the book.

If Arya ends up dying, Im going to stop watching. GRR Martin is the worst best author out there.

In the books the Hound conking Arya over the head was the ending of the chapter immediately following the RW itself, and the way it was written strongly implied she was killed then and there (he threw an axe at her head). It's the only time in my reading of the series that I cheated and flipped ahead to find a character's chapter to see if they were dead or not.

I am fine with the way the show depicted that as clearly non-fatal (and not having Catelyn gouge her face). Those would have been piling on a little too much, given the more visceral nature of a 'graphical' depiction (pun intended) vs the written word. All in all very well executed and absolutely gut-wrenching. The Talisa stabbing(s) were unexpected and shocking.

Well done show... but ugh...

I liked how they did the Red Wedding given the budgets they had to work with. More $$ would have been more epic (didn't something like 300 nobles die in the main hall in the book with huge tents cut down and fired out in the courtyard?) but overall good job.

Here is an observation that sorta struck me this AM. Westeros is a society in change. Part of that is the fall of the House Targaryen - and that, in part, was the result of the end of the Dragons - sorta the nuclear weapon of Westeros politics. The old conventions and customs are all in turmoil and flux.

I know that the Starks are sometimes read as the heros of the story. Not sure. Their stubborness to these old traditions is resulting in a lot of them eating dirt.

I thought it was a pretty ominous wanting to name the baby Eddard (Ned).

Anybody also watching Mad Men?

A certain Cal alum was featured prominently in last night's episode.

Just out of curiosity, doesnt Jon Snow technically lay claim to the North now that Robb is gone? He's the second oldest behind Robb. Or is it because he's a bastard child that the north now belongs to Sansa, the dumbest character in the story IMO?

I believe that it would fall to Bran and then Rickon, since Jon Snow is a bastard (who is in the nights watch anyway... so i think even if he wasn't a bastard, joining the NW gives up your claim) and women are passed over. I think in the books it explains that in dorne, women are not passed over but maybe i'm just making that up since it's been a while since i read the books. Of course Bran and Rickon are presumed dead to the outside world, which is why the Lannisters think that it would fall to Sansa. Which is why Papa Lannister insisted that Tyrion marry Sansa... so that the Lannisters could control the north.

Go Bears!

I believe you are correct in your analysis. . . .though in the books, Jon Snow gets the opportunity to lead the north from Stannis a little later on. Snow turns down the offer and stays as the leader of the NW. I could be misremembering incorrectly though.

For those who have not read the books, up thru Book 5, there is much more in store. GRR Martin implied he will have Book 6 by summer 2014, which would be rocket speed for him. He knows the show is catching up to him. Book 5 is my second favorite of the current books. Arya is definitely going to be a bad ass. As is Jon Snow. The killer rumor is that Jon Snow is not, in fact, the bastard son of Eddard. He is the son of another. And I will leave it there...

This rumor is definitely an internet fan favorite, which is why I think GRRM will not pursue the plotline. Who knows where he will take us.

Jon Snow is a bastard so he has no claim to Winterfell. With Robb dead it goes to the next eldest son, which is Bran

It not a rumor, a close reading of the books and a little deduction and you can figure out the deal with Jon Snow and why Eddard probably lied to everyone including his wife. There is one person left who probably knows the truth, but its not a character we've ever been introduced to. And one other test to tell if its true.

If I have time I could look up the passages that give away the deal with John Snow. Actually its several brief passages that you have to piece together, and then disregard some of the rumors that cloud the issue. Its all pretty subtle in the books and takes some thinking. I had to point it out to my wife and she's no dumb bunny (she went to Cal). Reading it on a website would really kill the fun of figuring it out.

That's not even trying.

I doubt you could put it together from just watching the series. I'm really wondering how they deal with it in the series, because it would be hard to be as subtle as in the book.
