Funny you should say that. I think the story with William the Conquer was his dad got fed up with his noble wife, was riding through town and liked the look of the tanner's daughter, so he took her home. Its good to be king (or duke in his case).

To me, the books have gotten to the point where they are a chore to read. He has tacked on too many characters with too many sub-plots. And too many years between new books.
Daenarys' chapters are absolute dreck. Boring and nearly pointless. What could be said in a few chapters over one book has been dragged out over three or four now.
Just get to dragons vs. zombies already.

A lot of book-readers dislike Roz, mostly because she wasn't in the books. I didn't find her very interesting (other than the obvious

The name doesn't even exist in the books. I think there might have been mention of a red-headed whore. But that's really pushing that it was "Ros" when no name was given.
In any case, I grew to like the character as I said.

Maybe my memory is bad. But I agree that they did a good job of building the character into one you cared about and were sad to see die.
