Ok. And? What does that have to do with whether McCain is soft or not? He got dinged up because he is a warrior and then played through that pain/those injuries. He's not soft.

Nothing to do with him - he played tough (light but tough)... but he got dinged up quite a bit too.

But we needed healthy bodies to go with that heart - that is what was missing too often.

But I am impressed with the S&C coach's approach to training. He wants Cal players to be the best conditioned in the league.
Yes one cannot prevent all injuries; but with proper strength and conditioning you can avoid a lot of injuries.
A well muscled arm or leg can take a hit or can run longer without stress than a poorly muscled arm or leg.

[As can be attested to by many Week-end Warriors on this board who go out and get hurt playing softball, basketball, touch football or volley ball, without the proper conditioning. Myself included.]

McCain is also standing out in the summer workouts. Check out some of Scott Salwasser's (Asst S&C Coach) tweets this week:

22 Jul
Scott Salwasser @CalCoachSal: Heavy clean & squat Mon and @BScarlett17 McCain & Nickerson were #Warriors with the iron in their hands today #CanWeHitSomebodyAlready?

24 Jul
Scott Salwasser @CalCoachSal: #HumpDaaaay Lasco Rodgers & McCain overcame the effects of yesterday's #HardestRuninCFB to dominate Rack 3 this morning #BearsEatIron

Kudos to Salwasser for excellent use of hash tags. #BearsEatIron is solid. SOOOO much better than the hash tags used by Blasquez like: #dontworryyoullgetemnexttime, #canwehurrythisalongihaveamanipediinanhour and #whatdoesthatmachinedo?

and the tempo builds more than muscle mass ... endurance under stress builds strength.

Not sure what you mean about tempo building muscle mass....only resistance against progressive weight builds muscle mass. Endurance under load is a better term than stress in workout terms though it maximizes muscular endurance instead of strength. Endurance and strength are polar opposites but you can maximize each to best fit your position which is what a very good S&C coach will do. I would say conditioning, VO2 max training and energy system recovery along with flexibility are more important in football than endurance but I know what you are getting at.

Anyone who thinks he is soft is a fool. He gets dinged up because he is a warrior who always plays 100%. Even when he's undersized, he is fearless. He may have some attitude issues off the field, but if everyone on our team had McCain's heart, we would have won a lot more games the last two seasons.

That's how I saw it, so I was surprised when I heard the Boston Market type rumors that told us his teammates were not as enthused about him as we were.

I could see how a person who was constantly telling you that you are quitting would be annoying. Especially when the team sucks and you kind of were quitting.

I could also see how a person who was not working hard in the classroom and the weightroom is also annoying (though, given our on and off the field results, this sure doesn't seem limited to one player the last couple years.

Finally, I could see how when one person is both of the above things, that would also be annoying.

Doesn't mean McCain is soft, or a quitter, or doesn't have heart.

If everyone had McCain's supposed attitude issues, we'd have a failing APR, be physically weaker than our opponents and get gassed late in games like last season. Having "heart" only on gamedays is not a recipe for success.

If reports are accurate, McCain is working his butt off in S&C and academics so he can be a part of the team. Regardless of talk about before, his past has passed.
What he's doing now is all that matters. Hope he's on the field for this season.

You do realize this is already a reality, right? Or, I should say, it was the last few years.

Someone called McCain soft. I think that is nuts. He is far from soft. Your other complaints are fair, but that was not part of the discussion.

I know, that's why I brought it up. Games aren't won by being hard on Saturdays. They're won way before that.

While I know it's in vogue to bash the former staff in order to fit in, Blazquez included, your snarky statements are completely ridiculous. For one, he's still on staff for other sports. But more importantly, I can with 100% certainty say that Blazquez is, and will always be significantly stronger than you could ever imagine, and he probably has forgotten more about lifting weights than you've ever learned in your lifetime. So why don't we just try to say positive things about the current staff and players instead of beating a dead horse. While he may not have been the best at teaching and developing the football team, he's still better at it than any of us can be, so why the need to denigrate someone else to make yourself feel special. You just sound petty and childish.

Blasquez arguably did not do a very good job of getting our team into shape. This the joke. Man, you all are wound up tight these days.

It's difficult to get a football program back on track when your star players aren't able to play because of academics. Hopefully it isn't too bad. McCain is in for a big season. I was expecting 10 or more sacks.

10 sacks? Really? He is not a star player. Not even close...

Probably true but he transferred here after posting mediocre results at Buffalo and won the job. He was obviously better than the back up.

No he sucked.. Absolutely murdered two seasons for us.

First, I shall agree with you that Blasquez can very likely lift heavier objects than I can. Point for you. He also probably knows more about it than I do too. Another good point. He can probably beat me in arm wrestling as well, I suspect.

As for the rest, a little over the top, don't you think? Holy cow, brother! If you found my playful comments offensive, I can only imagine what you thought of the comments on this board over the last year. If you took that last year off, then welcome back!! And if you were indeed here, then I hope you're recovering well from your aneurysm.

A functional member of society? Sheesh, why all the drama today? Actually, my message was intended to be complimentary of Salwasser's energy and passion, as were previous comments about Harrington. Sounds like someone needs a shell of kava!
