Bear Raid Siren?

Did this get installed? Nobody has mentioned it. It seems so obvious that I hate to ask if the program has set one up at Memorial. If they haven't then i hope they have a good explanation. It would be a riot to have a TD pass, followed by a siren, then the cannon.

Sirens seem too gimmicky, like something Stanfurd would do. Also, given that sirens would probably be used in case of an actual emergency (at a stadium on an earthquake faultline), I feel it has zero chance.

When I hear sirens at football games, the mighty Conference USA comes to mind. Plus, UW already has sirens. I'm grateful we have the cannon on Tightwad, I wish it could be bigger.

Sorry, but the canon, and only the canon. Forever. End of thread.

Those folks living up in Panoramic Hill would love a siren. Seriously though, I'm good with the cannon going off 6-10 times a game.

Of all the crazy ideas I ever heard of, this one takes the cake. I'm sorry, why do we want to copy what others do when we have one of the most unique responses to scoring a TD in college football; and from the top of Tightwad Hill, nonetheless.

Millenia, into the penalty box with tim94501! :p

That said, if we do actually install sirens, you're totally allowed to start a Told Yall thread.

Not so fast my friends. We could use it just before the Bears run out of the North tunnel. Last year, before Nev. there was a terrific video sequence on the message board running through campus up to CMS It was much more inspiring than the game turned out to be. There aught to be a way to incorporate the Bear Raid motif.

I would like us to maybe put a speaker near the canon. Make it boom.

haha.....I think of hockey. Each team has their own signature siren or horn when a goal is scored.

Sharks goal fog horn....

Hop on a plane, couple of hours north, you'll be home in fuskie land, home of the friggen siren and to$h and gimmicks ... enjoy yerself.

A cannon and Fight For California is what we have and all we need.

GHOD save us.
Lets go back to just marching bands and cheerleaders and a cannon and crowd participation and Oski strutting.

If we had the will, we could lead the revolt against the moneymen stealing the soul of the game.

Pass on the siren. We have a cannon already.

How about Oski jumping off of a plane and parachuting into the stadium right before kickoff with NU? Have him all decked out in Cal fight pilot clothing.

I agree with the general gist of the responses in this thread: (1) we already have a Victory Cannon and (2) we don't need to copy the Fuskies.

No siren, Thanks Very Much.

In all my years as a Cal fan, I have only known the Victory Cannon to have run out of charges on one occasion: Cal defeated Pacific, 86-24 in the 1991 Season Opener for both teams.

The last two TDs were signaled by the crowd yelling "BOOM!"

Rally Comm reserved one charge for signalling the certain victory.

I remember that game as a student. The student section was yelling "we want 100..." :rollinglaugh:

At least we don't play "Zombie Nation" after we score. Maybe UW will do that at the "new" husky stadium.

That was my first game as a Cal fan and freshman. Sets up a high bar, doesn't it? That whole season was fantastic and gave me a warped sense of Cal history.

Too much like stanfurds' train whistle.
The cannon by itself is good enough.

at least not after TDs

maybe after big first downs, or something.
I've always appreciated our cannon after hearing UW's siren
irritating

our cannon is classic.

Or better yet: Oski bursts out of the tunnel driving a well sposnsored logo emblazoned ambulance with siren blaring, the chancellor cranks an old air raid warning from WWII while a Messerschmidt dive bombs the stadium, on screen a video of the opposing mascot getting its throat slit while the cheerleaders shoot heroin on the sidelines. The other cal sports teams who line the field shoot real guns up into the visiting section and t shirt guns into cal section, the first student to get on the shirt which has TD scrawled on it swings on a rope over the field and hits a big blue button then the score swivels to reveal monster speakers that blast a rap mash up of fear the reaper and the offense salts the grass behind them as part of their scorched earth offense...or we could just leave one of the best college traditions alone and not bow to bombastic commercialized meaningless unnecessary gimmicks.
