Horrible news for the football team. On the bright side, he still has his redshirt so he still has two years of eligibility (same with Avery Sebastian). I also think Brennan Scarlett will probably sit out for the rest of the year and use his redshirt. If all three of these players are healthy for next season, our defense will improve drastically.

Has he played too many games to redshirt this season? I'm not so sure, but I always forget the rules (and they've changed them from time to time).

I guess we all surmised that might happen, but damn. I sort of remember thinking that way about this season though, that we'd be getting guys back.

I completely agree with your last point!
We are losing Deandre Coleman from our defense...but we are gaining Mustafa Jalil, Avery Sebastian, Brennan Scarlett, Nick Forbes (who still really hasn't played), Sione Sina... In addition, we will have a lot of returning starters and young players with experience...hopefully everything goes as planned, unlike this year

I'm fairly sure that a medical redshirt only applies to athletes who have already burned their normal redshirt...Maybe another poster can enlighten us with more knowledge regarding this situation?

He can definitely use a medical redshirt since he already redshirted last year.

I am certain that Jalil has not played at all. The only one of the 3 mentioned that played is Sebastian. And that was just for the 1st half of the opener. I think that you are allowed to play a half and still redshirt.

With all due rerspect. What makes you think they will all be healthy, or others don't get hurt. As forthcoming Sonny has been, there is something very strange about this Scarlett and Jalil thing. Something does not seem right. I def. DO NOT wish this, but I feel some may never play a down again

I'm not certain they will be healthy and that's why I said "hopefully everything goes as planned, unlike this year"

I know what your mean. Even in 2012, both Jalil and Scarlett disappeared for long stretches with little explanation. What is doubly weird is that they seem to always have a favorable off-season. In any case, these 2 have had trouble staying healthy ever since they arrived. It reminds me a bit of Wilkerson's career. If we had those 3 guys for the 12 games of 2012, things would have been different.

The rule is that a player has 5 years to play 4 seasons, so if a player redshirts their frosh year (or sits out a year for any reason, like transferring), they cannot get an extra year of eligibility due to an injury.
The only exception is the a granting of a 6th year which requires TWO season missed due to injury. One cannot get a sixth year with one regular redshirt and one medical redshirt year.

somehow, they are both probable for saturday's game...the coaches and reporters seemed more optimistic about Jefferson playing
It's going from bad to worse. The injuries these last two years have been unbelievable.
overhauled something is just not right ... forbes ??? then moose done for the year ... mcclure out ( same leg ?) brendan out ???... are other teams having these amount out of injuries or re injuries or is something else going on ... something stinks
