I understand that traditions come and go. We used to serpentine after victories, apparently, based on the lyrics to the 2nd verse of "Big C" -- but I've never seen it; it died long before my time.

In my time, we'd trot out the "Oski Wow Wow" cheer once a year, but only as a curiosity, never as an actual in-game cheer.

We used to do the "California Spell-Out", but that vanished years ago. And "It's On The Roof (Oh Yeah)" came and went.

And now, apparently, The Axe Yell is dead. It's been years since I've heard it at a Big Game. I, for one, will miss it.

I'm with ya.
But to be fair......we haven't had one to give in a number of years either.

We used to to the Axe cheer my years. And we never had the Axe then. Won it back my Senior year.

I also think it's unfortunate that the full California spell out is never used. I don't know why.

Well you don't remember Bear Territory because the last time we used it was against Portland State and before that it was with UCLA last year.

When you have a chant that you use when you win games you won't hear it much when we lose.

Axe Yell is generally taught at bonfire no matter what, but it is heard much more often when we actually have the axe.

As for Bear Territory, I heard it today at the WBB game . . . you need to win to hear that one. Also, the California spell out is done before every MBB game.

Your point is correct about needing to win a game to yell the Bear Territory yell, that's why it should be done BEFORE EACH game. It's a great yell and should not be restricted to the end of a win regardless of the sport.

They've even changed "Hey alumni" to "Hey Cal fans" - annoyed me all season.

I've waited in vain to hear the Axe yell during the last several Big Games I attended (although I have been unable to attend a few recent ones -- apparently God was being merciful to me). We yelled it once in the Big Game all four years I was an undergrad, and we won two memorable ones (1970, over Plunkett's Rose Bowl team, and 1972 with the dramatic Ferragamo to Sweeney final TD). Maybe there's a correlation.

There were legitimately some alumni on the west side of the stadium who posted on the board complaining when the students would do the "Hey Alumni, make some noise" cheer.
