Relax.
Bigger picture in evening out the schedule.

And......
You are 25% closer to Santa Clara than Berkeley

Well then, maybe.
But i am still not going.

If we play the entire 2014 slate at Levi's, can we buy the whole staff out?

Another completely idiotic move by Sandy Barbour. She just has to be fired ASAP. We have a beautiful home stadium that we just spent $325 million to rebuild and she schedules a "home game" against a marqee opponent 35 miles away from Berkeley, and on a Friday night at that. Completely ludicrous.

Sorry if someone else already mentioned this, but there was a story last week that the 49ers would not play any home Monday or Thursday night games during the first season until traffic studies are completed. But somehow a Friday night college game can be played? Strange.

. . . which is exactly what concerns me. That would be a game off our season ticket package . . . which already will be a tough pill to swallow.

Other than the most diehard Cal and Oregon fans, who in the hell is going to pay that kind of money to see a one-sided game between the worst and one of the best teams in the Pac-12?

This is my favorite line....

"we have nearly 100,000 alumni who live in the South Bay, and holding the game at Levi's Stadium gives them a chance to watch the Bears in person that they may not normally have."

Really?
You expect me to believe that there are a significant amount of these south bay alumni that have been itching to go to a Cal game, but for they live in the south bay?

I agree with minkjr, Phantom and SoFaBear.

+1. What an idiotic justification for whoring out the game.

I liked the idea as well, but that's mostly because I live near the stadium. I also think it makes sense to do the obligatory Thursday/Friday night game there. But I'm not paying $80 to see a Cal game + $30 for parking.

For those worried about traffic, there are a few hotels within 1-1.5 miles. Come in early and chill out. Hilton, Marriott, TownPlace, Courtyard. Remember it's 1.25 miles from Berkeley BART to CMS. Make reservations now, before the hotels catch on. Make sure it's totally cancelable. What's the worst that can happen?

but it also gives the campus and new Chancellor Nicholas Dirks more time to fully engage with faculty, students, staff and the surrounding community on how best to manage weeknight games in Berkeley.

Really. This is something the new Chancellor is concerned with, how to manage a night football game every other year? I'd rather he engage with faculty, students, staff on the selection of a new Athletic Director.

Also, what's with the timing of this announcement? They think this is some kind of exciting news after our crap season?

That could make sense for some. . . but Im coming from Sacramento. This adds significantly to the commute, the price, and the grief.

Cool idea for some though.

Hahaha...

I have a job... and if I dont, I cant afford tickets.

Though, I do like this idea, with some PTO and a real parking area for tailgating, this would be nice... ALL day friday. Hopefully it does not rain, and even so a nice bit of shade... sweet.

The only saving grace as far as I'm concerned is that they aren't forcing it on us by including it in the season ticket package.
Won't Great America be open for Halloween stuff on a Friday in late October, adding to traffic and parking woes?

I seriously hope this isn't a "now that the season is closed we really need to fire up our fans for next season" strategy but I am betting this is how she views it.

Yeah but, "we have nearly 100,000 alumni who live in the South Bay, and holding the game at Levi's Stadium gives them a chance to watch the Bears in person that they may not normally have." So I'm sure they will be more than willing to drop that insignificant amount, after all, they get to see the Bears in person!!

I live in the South Bay and see it as a chance to not watch the Bears in person but on my couch with a beer. Drinking and eating in a nondescript parking lot never had much appeal to me.

I like this idea. Parking is a little steep but there are TONS of ways around it. Only "downside" to me is if they don't reduce the season ticket price to account for 1 less marquee game on the schedule since we're gong to have to pay for it.

It's $40, not $80 (if you're a season ticket holder)

And for season ticket holders, the cheapest seats will cost $118 for a pair including parking. Yeah, good luck with that.

OneKeg;842234139 said:

...Perhaps the plan is to charge Cal season ticket holders the same as last season (hope not), while also charging us for the Oregon game separately? Again, I hope instead that we're squeezing Levi's as hard as we squeeze our fans.

Of course that's the plan. Then they can claim they did not increase ticket prices, though by keeping them the same and removing the marquee game, that's exactly what they will be doing.

Why do we get dumped on two out of three years for the one Friday night game per year???? What about other teams that have no yet played ANY Friday night games????

Two points. She should have asked that other teams be given th opportunity. If the game were forced on us(I don't see why the Pac 12 wants to Highight Cal) she should have done what WSU did and make the Academics leave early Friday afternoon so there would be game parking.

Someone please explain to me how this benefits Cal or the 49ers? I don't buy her explanation.

P.s Don't buy any tickets at you season ticket holder rate and hope to make money on this, you won't.

Seriously - the last Friday of Halloween Haunt? Sandy - do your homework. Just drove by Great America on 101N the last Friday before Halloween and it was insane - not sure the game time but at 8pm everyone was heading to Great America (so maybe that's good that people may be heading out)....but it literally took 45 minutes just to go 1/2 mile and get past the exit. This is going to be a Candlestick-like disaster. Guaranteed. I'm out.

Memorial Stadium with the empty student and ESP sections, mind blitzing commercials, loud music, stupid promotions, and bad food is not my idea of a need to go to place. Home field advantage means little in this match up. I am anxious to see this new place and I am sure that the team will be super excited to play in a real NFL stadium. Plus, the Cal Band will be there, so I'm all in.
