Isn't that where his kids' doctors are? Doubtful.

I'm definitely getting a Rick Majerus vibe from him. Maybe he just likes being a big fish in a small pond. The other question I'm sure everyone else has is, has he peaked? It's not like he went 8-4 with a sophomore QB this year.

Isn't his stock heading down? May not get the chance to look elsewhere.

I doubt his stock is declining, everybody in Austin would be drooling if they got him to replace Mack.

247 sports seems to think that he'd take the Oregon job if/when it opens up again. Supposedly they never even made contact with Petersen after Kelly left.

Hell, if he didn't take the position at Cal, when it was open, no, he'll certainly never leave Boise.

Petersen probably stays in Boise until his kid gets older, like maybe high school. How old is his son?

He would not be comfortable in a big city environment/major university.

He will be rumored to be on everyone's list, but he is going nowhere....IMO

Petersen is obviously comfortable in Boise playing WAC/MWC tomato cans every year. The question is, "Can he step up?" Koetter and Hawkins couldn't.

I was not a fan of the Dykes hire for the same reason. Going 22-15 in the WAC is not impressive.

I believe Dan Hawkins was on the record in the Denver Post about needing time to spend with family and allowing his assistants to be able to work decent hours. There was also an article about CP awhile ago and how Hawkins originally got him to come to Boise St by promising him no out of state recruiting visits so that CP could spend more time with his family.

It's entirely plausible that the MWC is just a little more laid back in terms of work load... some tough weeks, some breaks due to the lower overall level of talent and opposing coaching. If someone is comfortable with that, why would they want to leave? college coaching is brutal in some places. the pressure is brutal. Look at bad Tedford was looking in his last years when under tremendous pressure.

If CP (and his family) likes his life in Boise St, why move? It won't be like that in Seattle, The Bay Area, LA, or Austin. Boulder probably seemed like a nice step up for Hawkins that still had chill atmosphere and look what happened to him.

Excellent post CB1. Yet, I never expected Brad Stevens to leave Butler for the Celtics, so you never know.

I think Washington's list, in order, is: Mora, Wilcox, Pinkel, and maybe Nussmeier, with Petersen bringing up the rear, at about $3.0 to $3.5 million per year for Mora and Pinkel, and $2.5 to $3.0 for the others.

This.

Based on several discussions with Bob Gregory a few years back, it became clear to me that the relatively laid-back atmosphere on the coaching staff at Boise St. was a big draw, along with the lifestyle. Gregory went to Washington St. and I think his wife went there as well and/or has family in that region. The ability to spend time with family was a big component to his/their desire to join that staff.

CP and his family appears quite comfortable in Boise. Perhaps that is the biggest single factor in his (alleged) repeated rejections of other coaching opportunities over the past few years.

Peterson's been offerred a lot of high profile jobs-UCLA, USC, Arkansas, Stanford, etc-so I don't think football fit is the question. Most of these guys are brutally competitive and would coach in Mogadishu if it was the way up. I think he is actually a different sort of person.

Chris Petersen comes off as a low-key guy, like his mentor HOF Coach Sochor. I've also read that doctors in Boise helped save his son's life (cancer), and that CP really appreciates that.

Then think about pragmatics. $2M, or whatever he makes, goes a loooonnnnggg way in Boise. How much is enough? He may be smarter than most coaches in America.

A few years ago he and his wife donated $150,000 to the future College of Business and Economics.

In 2011 he also moved $35,000 of HIS compensation package to the assistants pool to attract Coach Bob Gregory to Boise.

Despite what people think, you don't have to win in football or make the most money to win at life.
