Sacks and Stewart gone, too.

Edit: Buh is not gone, but no longer DC.

Alright, Sonny made an adjustment. Thattaboy! The question remains, why did he hire Buh in the first place, especially after this same move was pulled by Harbaugh?

The coaching ranks are littered with coordinators who succeeded at one place and not another. Not saying that Buh is one of them, but it isn't hard to see why Dykes took a chance

WOW! Progress. I thought Sacks and Stewart were good though. What about offense? Wait. Our guy is prepping for a seminar.

Wonder if we switch back to a 3-4 defense. If so, need more LB's!

LOL. Give me a puff of that before you put it out...
Tosh will have trouble getting a college job until the smoke clears.

Any insight DD on who we are pursuing?

I'm really tired of searching from Peet's to Peet's, looking for one not serving House Blend!

Good for Sonny. I don't know how this will turn out but I applaud the willingness to make tough decisions. There was no way this past year was all due to injuries, guys not buying in, etc. In other words, this past year involved a combination of bad play and bad coaching. We will see who Sonny can get to replace these guys (I wouldn't be surprised if we don't replace Sacks but just have the DE coach coach the entire DL) at this time of the year and if this impacts recruiting but I like the decision. Sorry to Sacks and Stewart for losing their jobs but that's the business they are in. It's a tough one.

You can blame a guy for making a bad hire, but you can't make him justify it. Obviously he thought Buh was a good choice at the time. Any explanation now would just be Monday morning quarterbacking.

Even there I would be concerned. As long as the new DC has the final word on where the LBs should be positioned on a given play, I suppose having Buh train the LBs is OK. Seems like he is a decent recruiter.

Seems pretty clear from the timing that they were waiting for all the bowl games to be played, for whatever reason. I would assume this means the changes have been known internally for some time, maybe even communicated to recruits. Still, it's a welcome development and something I wasn't convinced was actually going to happen.

We need to part with some major bucks and get ourselves a top DC. After last season there is no doubt that the DC holds the keys to the kingdom. Someone from the NFL, not CP, who can communicate with the players and has the knowledge and experience to deal with the spread, the pistol and the pro-set that he will see in the Pac12.

In fairness, the players share some of the blame for the deficiency of the 2013 defense. A coach can only do so much. With injuries, inexperience and a tough schedule Buh obviously did what he could, but clearly it wasn't enough. We hope that Sonny learned from this experience.

Looks like Dykes got a mulligan and is giving Buh the same treatment he got at Furd. He's going to be a 500k LB coach. Crazy. I think we have to bring in a big name now to keep the salaries scaled correctly.

Three thoughts:

1) I would not be surprised if Buh resigns soon. He will continued to get paid the full DC amount, even as a position coach. So this will be good for us.

2) I thought of our four defensive position coaches, Sacks and Stewart did a better job than Cachere and Buh.

3) We paid top dollar for Buh. It wasn't like he was all we could afford. Our coordinators are extremely well paid.

With what Stewart had to work with I couldn't see anyone doing much better but there may be more to it than that. It's possible he wasn't getting it done in recruiting

I don't know why Buh would resign unless he feels like he can't work here and can line up a better job. His remaining $1MM is guaranteed. If he left he'd have to pay a buyout, or convince his new team to pay it I guess.

I have no idea why the other guys haven't been let go. I'm of the opinion that a DC should be able to bring in his own staff completely. I didn't have a problem with Sonny bringing in his own staff since it seems like forcing coaches upon each other is more likely to cause harm.

This was likely a done deal and kept quiet for the benefit of the new DC, to avoid distraction or speculation. Then again, if it's another two months before we announce a new DC, Silver will indeed have a good point.

And yah, I'm still p*ssed about the 50-pt loss to Furd.

I imagine that when a new DC is hired he will have the ability to set his own staff. Just because current staff haven't been fired doesn't mean that they won't be.

Also some possibility that the new DC has been identified and had input on the current decisions. Knows he's bringing replacements in certain slots and will need to evaluate the others when he gets here.
