Just read the profiles of most the folks being named here and Art Kaufman stands out miles ahead from the bunch IMO. One doesn't have much DC experience at a big school (Sanders), and Robinson had some bad defenses at Michigan, his last real gig of being a DC for whole seasons.

Time for a Kauman thread. This guy is my new favorite. Tuberville fired him because he wants guys with more midwestern recruiting ties? They had the #9 defense in the country according to this, and a 9-4 record! Get someone on OFFENSE who can recruit locally. Wow. Either Tuberville is crazy, or there's some other reason he was let go. This guy has a great track record lately. My guess is this is Dyke's top choice, what with the southern connection and all.

Just solving this problem…would be worth it. I've read where he is good at adapting to personnel and good at making adjustments (=@30 years of experience; lots of grey hair).

Robinson Defense:

Michigan 2010: 81st
Michigan 2009: 41st
Syracuse 2008: 101st
Syracuse 2007: 110th
Syracuse 2006: 76th
Syracuse 2005: 62nd

we might as well hire Bob Gregory back from NMSU. at least he'd fit w/ those wanting to recycle past Cal coaches.

Sanders allegedly knows "everyone" football-wise in LA and would be a could recruiter there; also, saw elsewhere where Dykes and several coaches are in LA today.

There's a coaching convention in L.A. right now. Sonny may be fielding a booth with a sign, "NEED DC FIX-IT MAN ASAP. INQUIRE WITHIN." That would also be next to the The System booth.

To be fair, he was head coach of Syracuse so it's debatable how relevant those stats are. Prior to an extended stint in the NFL, his last college DC gig was 2004, when Texas finished with the 14th ranked D (Cal was 4th that year).

I do like that proposal - if we are considering Robinson, why not just go get Gregory since he had the 4th rated D in the same year and he knows us? I say that in jest as a tick under the "con" column. So far I like Kaufman over Robo, the Loyola HC and Orlando.

North Carolina 2011: 30th
Texas Tech 2012: 38th
Cincinnati 2013: 9th

yeah, i'd rather have Kaufman.

Agreed KAB. I would be fine with Kaufman as DC and Sanders, who is purportedly well connected to the Southern California scene, as DB coach and good recruiter.

would be a great combo. now just need a DL coach that has good recruiting bonafides and isn't actively being investigated by the NCAA

didn't we only get rid of two coaches, so Sanders and Kaufman hires would fill the openings. I'm guessing that Sanders will not settle for DB unless he really wants back in the college ranks

Robinson had 10 years as an NFL DC including the Broncos in the Superbowl. That sounds pretty good to me. He's also in his 60's but so are Monty and Nick Saban, so that's not a total turn-off. I'd take him.

Although Sanders is a good coach, I've heard of some serious issues of concern that would be far worse than those surrounding English if true.

Recruiting, X & O, tackling, fundamentals, running, finding your elbow, how not to soil oneself. A DC with ANY skills at anything will be a major improvement over 2013.

Oh, no, that was a dog. I mean that the fountain was named after the dog, not that the dog was named after the coach.
