What do YOU say after Richard Sherman's rant?

Examples:

"Well... you have great fan support here in Seattle, Richard, so what do really want to say?" Or...

"Hey, Richard, meth works!" Or...

"Richard, I can certainly understand your excitement but as Cherrie Oteri would say 'SIMMER DOWN, SIMMER DOWN' now."

But I did think of some funny things to say to him which would of made him fall to the ground laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes and I thought to myself "Just one nice knee from me...".

Best Erin Andrews interview ever (and that's not meant as a knock on EA). Her reaction to Sherman was great. Kind of like, "What are you talking about dude?" or "Cool story, bro."

My first reaction was awe and respect for the Stanford education that equipped him to be so articulate.

She should have started screaming at him while pulling her hair: "SO YOU'RE THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN SPYING ON ME IN HOTEL ROOMS!! POLICE! POLICE!"

Here's Erin talking about it. I agree with her.

We get so many boring, cliche-ridden interviews these days.

Athletes are too media trained. Colin Kaepernick barely opens his mouth.

And when we finally get honesty and raw emotions, we complain.

Nice link and agree. The guy at least isn't talking from the book of cliches and pat answers. I know the NFL PR types are grinning this week at the prospects of more Sherman over the next couple of weeks. The question is whether Sherman cooperates. I hope he tries to play the media but he might be too smart for that and just lay low. At least it's interesting.

BTW, I think Sherman is really good at getting under people's skin. It's gamesmanship and since he has the game skills to back it up, it's a nasty combo. I don't know who said it but it was a little scary and Sherman wanted that. His comments were as much about next season when he'll play against Crabtree 2x.

In Erin's comments about the interview, she said that look on her face that so many are commenting on was simply her wondering if she should or should not ask him to clarify for the public who was talking about him.

Other Andrews comments:

"He lost his mind -- and it was AWESOME for once."

"He never threatened me or cussed at me or the camera. I never was frightened."

She looked stricken and thinking, "Uh, oh, what did I just do?"

She just learned the difference between the Green Room and the Locker Room.

True but this isn't the first time Sherman was getting into faces after a game, Trent Williams and Tom Brady to name a couple. During the game no problem, after a game is bush league.

The NFL Network recently counted down the Top 10 divas in NFL history.

I think Brady came in 2nd, after Favre.

So I have no problem with this.

I think Sherman smartly picks his battles.

For instance, he's not going to antagonize Peyton, whom he considers the smartest QB in the NFL. (What is there to antagonize Peyton about?)

I agree totally. For the next two weeks, the Superbowl will be advertised as Sherman vs Manning. Sherman will be doing all he can to get under Manning's skin and try to shake his immutable poise. I can see him positioned across from Denver's center jumping about and shouting "Omaha" over and over again to confuse the Denver OL. That would be a hoot. Is there an NFL rule against it?

If you win a game and then get in the face of you opponent AFTER the game is over, I consider that poor sportsmanship regardless of if it is my team or not....especially to rub it in. If you are animated before a game, or even during, that is ok since it it part of the game, but insulting your opponents afterwards is bush league. I'll always think that way but I was raised in a different era I guess.....

Here's Sherman in an NFL Total Access piece (first part is Sherman mic'd up, second is a roundtable interview). He states that during the game, in which the Seahawks were losing by 13, Brady told Sherman that he shouldn't be jawing so much while losing, that he should talk to him after the game, after the Pats got the win. Well, I guess Sherman felt like taking Brady up on his offer of a post-game chat (Seattle came back to win).

It's how Sherman operates. Love or hate the guy, he has the ball skills (and stats) to back things up. I get the irritation-clown-jerk factor but I think it's gamesmanship. He reminds me of Muhammad Ali a little bit, i.e., it's psychological warfare, mind games. He wants to get under your skin, and if he sees the chance, he'll go for it. The only way to stop his baloney is beat him and rub it in.

It's ironic of course he dislikes Harbaugh because Harbaugh would do the exact same thing if it mean an edge or winning. Those guys are likely cut from the same cloth but have different ways of expressing it. Of course many people dislike Harbaugh for his hubris as well.

It sounded like she wanted to keep on going, but the producers pulled the plug on the rest of the interview. That's too bad. I could have listened to Sherman talk/froth for hours.

Yes.

Rule 12 Player Conduct
Section 3 Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Article 1: Prohibited Acts
(i) Using acts or words by the defensive team that are designed to disconcert an offensive team at the snap. An official must blow his whistle immediately to stop play.

Penalty: For unsportsmanlike conduct (i) thorugh (u): Loss of 15 yards from:
(a) the succeeding spot if the ball is dead.
(b) the previous spot if the ball was in play.

If the infraction is flgrant, the player is also disqualified. If the foul is by the defense, it is also an automatic first down

I hate him. He blames his teammates when he loses. Eg his last Super Bowl. He's a tremendous regular season QB and plays nice with the media. Really glad he isn't in SF.

So, I'm conflicted. Do I root for the team that features 2 former Bears (my usual criteria for picking an NFL team to root for)? Or do I root against the team with the flaming Stanfurd douchebag?

But he got in Crabtree's face during the game.

As for the Erin Andrews interview, he had just completed the play of his life to send his team to the Super Bowl. Of course he's not going to be behaving "normally." He's on a high. He's amped up. If you saw him 15 minutes later on the Fox set, he had totally calmed down.

I never once said anything bad about being "amped up", and yes, he was insulting about Crabtree AFTER the game was over in interviews. He has a history of doing this, it is not out of the wild blue yonder.

I'm glad to hear this because it did come off as the stereotypes of angry black man and scared white woman. Unfortunately such prejudices exist in society. This is why I think some people go so far as to call him a "thug" which is uncalled for.

I liked to see his raw emotion and don't mind a little smack talking. That's why it's entertainment. Definitely not a great role model for the kids though. It does the away from his accomplishments as his jabbering distracts. But he's a great athlete and a primadonna.

These guys are trying to kill and maim each other for three hours . I'm sure Sherman and Crabtree were insulting each other constantly with absolutely no respect . When the game ends they are expected to transition to cliches and respect. Some guys need to go beyond normal behavior to full gladiator mode to get their game on and I think Sherman is one. I don't begrudge Sherman or Crabtree for trying to kill each other for my entertainment; nor do I care if this continues after the game. If people have problems with Sherman it will be handled the next time these guys play
