Cal needs to get this positive PR out to the public (especially the recruits) w/ only two weeks until LOI Day. It's really going to be tight to rearrange visits to Cal at 5 minutes until midnight. GO BEARS!
Could it be b/c of the long weekend and folks not wanting to give up their day off?

That is true. But Akina was dismissed from U of Texas with the regime change, so we can hope for his services until Cal's announcement. Akina sounds great:

It was never supposed to happen today. The buzz about a team meeting being the place for the announcement was just a guess by some. The meeting tonight was scheduled regarding academics on the players' first day back from the break.
Expect an announcement this week but the day is still unspecified. I'm sure they'd like to have them on campus for the next round of visits but after seeing the results this last weekend without the new staff, it's easy to see how all the handwringing was a little exaggerated.

I hope it's Akina! That would be a big hire. Would probably flip a few commits before NSD. But imagine the guys we can snag in the 2015 class. That's what has me so excited about Akina.

Kids change the day before LOI day, so, other things being equal, 2 weeks is not out of the question. Of course, other things are never equal when it comes to Cal.
Still, wouldn't it be nice to see that oft printed headline, "So-and-so closed with a rush, as three ___ star recruits (fill in the blank) switched to Cal."

I trust Dykes knows what he's doing. And i expect the new coaches to be at Cal by time the next batch of recruits visit.

akina was not the only coach dismissed from texas last year who is qualified to coach DBs...

We still haven't played UT in the Holiday Bowl in the world that this article comes from.
He was headed to AZ, but UT bumped up his salary and he stayed.

I missed it too regarding the date. You are still correct that it could be anyone from Texas, I am just hoping it is Akina because he is a great coach. I'm crossing my fingers, nothing more...

That's true. But that doesn't mean it's not referring to him. I'm not sure id say there are "zero" signs pointing to him unless you know something we all don't.
The University of Texas is also commonly referred to as Texas, and Akina is available and reputable, so I can see why he would be a candidate. The quote certainly lines up with the rumor. You've brought no information to contradict it.
