I grew up two blocks from where they were caught in the Outer Mission in SF. Of course it dominated the news, and as we were watching one night they announced that the FBI had finished searching the house. My uncle was looking for a house to rent near us, so we knew that house would soon be available.
He walks down the street to talk to the owner, and rents it on the spot (in retrospect, who else would have wanted it?). They lived there for a few years, and all the kids in the family would go over and try to find the secret panels stashed with guns and ammo and bombs and whatever else our imagination could come up with. The FBI did a better job than 8 and 9 year olds though. Couldn't find a Patty Hearst bobby pin.
