Hey everyone,

As a non-premium member, I thought it would be good to discuss our chances with Josh Rosen who is set to announce today at 12:30pm. Could the lack of discussion mean that he's already a silent to UCLA or Michigan and we've been out of it for a while now?

This has been discussed previously until there was nothing to discuss. fucla appears to be the favorite - it is the slow time of year for football news.....

Are we still recruiting this guy? I was under the impression that we stopped recruiting him several months ago.

According to the LB Press-Telegram, he is Bruin bound and Cal isn't mentioned in his other options.

This is a freaky year in terms of the quantity of very good west coast QBs. There may be 4 or 5 guys who will ultimately be considered better than UCLA's Rosen. Unfortunately, one of those guys is going to Furd. Another is Town who is going to SC. But Cal is in strong contention for one of the others.

There isn't a ton of info on Rosen on the Insider board. Most people assume he is going to UCLA.

He mentions Cal a lot in his interviews. But the experts are saying that Sonny's 1-11 season and the fact that Goff will be our starter for a while does not bode well for us. If Hundley goes pro, he would have to chance to start right away at UCLA.

supposedly he has a great relationship with mora. while rosen is clearly a top prospect, i think his game actually goes away from the type of qb's id like to see us go after, mobile, dual-threats are the types that i think can thrive in this offense

We had a shot for Rosen but a 1-11 season killed it. I dont think Rosen wouldve cared about Goff anyways since Rosen is just that good.

He's a lock for UCLA. Has a chance to start DAY ONE there.

He's good but a bit overrated. He gets hyped a lot because he plays for a big program and has done well in camps. As Wifeisafurd said, this year is stacked at QB in California and there's a reason some schools have favored other QBs over Rosen...and it's not because he's been a UCLA lock all this time. That's been a more recent development. There may be 4-5 QBs in the state who will be his equal or better if you ignore the hype. Not really a knock against Rosen...just a testament of how stacked this year is for QBs in Cali.

Now that I disagree that we would be more than fine with guys like White or Browning.. but let's not do the "this player is overrated" crap everytime a top guy picks another team over us. Rosen is the #1/#2 QB in the nation for a reason.

i wonder what Browning could do behind an OL like Rosen's. i mean... 6000 yds+ passing at Folsom. man, with SJB's OL and weapons on offense...

sure, some ppl like Town better. so what? he's still by far the most sought-after QB we have a shot with, and someone we had a GREAT shot with before this last season.

uhh yeah...that's what happens when you tell the schools you're not interested. especially when you've made it abundantly clear academics is a HUGE factor, and you're only considering Stanfurd, Cal, Michigan, and UCLA.

"passed" on him? please. if Rosen had any interest in Bama, i guarantee they offer him before Browning.

is it possible schools stopped contacting him b/c he was locked in at UCLA and with such a deep field...it makes sense to focus your effort elsewhere?

Official now. The UCLA recruiting machine keeps rolling. When you pay market rate for assistants who are top recruiters, this is what happens.

No knocking Rosen either but in his highlights, his wide receivers were literally so open that there wasn't a defender within 10 yards in most instances ... really hard to tell how he would do with pressure on him based on the highlights.

I don't doubt we'll get a really nice QB to build around. Its just a matter of how he is coached and developed once he is in.

Town, White, Barnett, Waller, Jones, Buncom are all rated higher by at least one service. Rosen doesn't even make Maxpreps top 100. so yes, there is unreal level of QB talent out there this year, and not everyone is in love with Rosen. My bet is White to Cal. My other bet is Rosen spends a lot more time on the UCLA bench is they recruit a dual QB. The UCLA OC really likes dual QBs.

Scout and 247 Sports has Town #1, Rosen #2. Rivals and ESPN has Rosen #1, Town #2. Maxpreps? White, Waller, Barnett and Jones are good QB's but they are not better than Town or Rosen. I do agree that this is the best QB class in years and a lot of programs are going to end up with a good QB prospect this year. White and his #1 target Trent Irvin would be a great pick-up for Cal.
