Brandon Connette, who set a school record for touchdowns last year at Duke despite sharing the QB position is looking to transfer to a CA school for his final year of eligibility to be closer to his mother who is battling cancer. Given how thin we are at QB and the likely desire to redshirt Rubenzer, having an experienced starter as a back-up to Goff (or as an injury replacement) seems pretty appealing. Connette's brother is at San Jose State. Perhaps worth a look for the staff.

We're not really that thin at QB:

Goff
Hinder
Boehm
Mahalic
Webb
Rubenzer
Forrest

Sure, only Goff has game experience, but that's how things shake out at most teams. Given that he'd be changing offensive systems, I think Hinder is still the preferred one year backup.

boehm switched back to qb?

id take him to push Hinder for the backup position. if you take rubenzer and forrest off because of redshirt. then we have a qb that switched to receiver and i believe a couple walk ons. we could use a little more depth

His brother is at San Jose State and they just lost their starting QB in Fales. Think they are more likely than us even tho he obviously values education

Wow, 7 QB's on staff - 0 D1-A wins between them.

So which of those guys after Goff has proven himself in a D1-A game?

When you end up playing a Freshman QB, most schools wouldn't have backups that are proven in a D1-A game. It's certainly not a necessity for most schools.

Ideally you'd love a backup QB that's proven in your school's system. Otherwise they still need to learn.

LOL. Same goes for HC, OC and DC -- 0 P-12 conference wins among them in their current roles (to be fair to Art Kaufman, he's never coached in a Pac-12 conference game).
