Saw a tweet from the Cal Athletic Ticket Office (?!) that In N Out is opening a storefront location on Telegraph Avenue soon and there is a sign indicating such.

Sorry, but I don't know how to post a link to the tweet from my cell phone. Perhaps, someone will be able to do so from their regular computer.

Should be a madhouse, if this comes to pass.

Looks like it's going to be where that old Adidas store that nobody ever went to used to be.

I'm going to have to change my handle to OneTopOneChickenAppleOneDoubleDouble.

It will be a dog fight (no pun intended) between Top Dog and In-and-Out. I feel sorry for the rest of the burger places within two-mile radius.

Talk about minting money

Honestly I'm surprised the CoB was OK with this, considering that In-N-Out will likely destroy at least a couple mom-and-pop businesses on top of the whole "Christianess" of the company.

They'll have to remove the secret Aramaic references to Jesus on the bottom of the French fry containers

If I were a student I'd be ecstatic. Cheap and good food that's relatively healthy considering it's a burger.

Possibly a Hoax:

Doh, might be a hoax:

Hoax? We chatted with an In-N-Out customer support representative, and she says there is no confirmed Berkeley site for this summer.

The In-N-Out rep also stated that the banner being used is not typical of a company banner for a pre-release. pic.twitter.com/OYVPfLMF29

Too good to be true I suppose. Can't imagine CoB would ever let them in.

Maybe you're right. I don't ever recall seeing an In-and-Out that is doesn't have the same building design.

And the crossing Palm trees in the parking lot.
pingpong2
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think the SF location has palm trees.

The SF one is the only one I've seen which doesn't fit their general model.

This would really help with recruiting, esp in SoCal! One good check mark on our column vs Oregon or UW. Are there any In&Outs very close to the USC or UCLA campuses?

Very weird hoax, if that's the case...

UCLA has one a block from campus.

USC has jack squat around campus, not that you'd want to venture out on foot around there at night anyways...

Though it's getting better; on the safe side there's now a Wich Wich, Chipotle, and Chick-fil-a nearby, and on campus they have a Lemonade and The Habit, which I consider to be better than In-N-Out.

What Cal needs is a really good dim sum place.

There are some great options nearby though in Oakland, SF, Emeryville (and Albany?).

Don't forget pacific east mall in richmond. Not particularly amazing, but it's easy to get to AND there's a Ranch there.

A few weeks ago, on a Sunday night, I went to In N Out on Sunset Blvd across from Hollywood High School, and it was jam-packed with lines going out the door, and with cars lining up down Sunset.

I decided not to wait in line. (I went to the Tommy's on Hollywood Blvd a few miles east, and there was nobody in there. No line, better burger!)

I went back a few nights later. Still very crowded. And my number was 85 and they were at No. 40.

I would expect In N Out in Berkeley to be similarly crowded, with lines longer than that ice cream place on Channing and Telegraph.

I can't imagine In N Out being near campus. It would be too crazy.

(Keep in mind that it was just a few weeks ago that Berkeley rejected a Starbucks on the corner of Ashby and Telegraph.... after complaints from a coffee shop 2 blocks south that NOBODY goes to.)

Yep. I'll believe it when I see it.

It took years to get Trader Joe's in Berkeley.

The one at UCLA doesn't seem that packed. I go there on my way home on nights when I'm too lazy to cook and the line's not bad; it helps that there's a lot of other places to eat around the area.

I am pretty sure that the City of Berkeley would welcome this company to town because they are purported to treat their employees and customers well.

My friends know that there are actually some good religious folks, just like there are some good wealthy folks.

Right Ody?

Pretty sure folks in Berkeley don't know that...

Considering the high number of religious houses of worship all around town that seem to exist drama free, I'm going to cal bs on that.

A few years ago there was an attempt to bring In-N-Out to/near the food court of the Student Union. Apparently In-N-Out rejected the idea because of a lack of Drive Through. There must've been more to this as the SF location doesn't have a drive through.
Recently there's been a petition circulating to make In-N-Out part of the Lower Sproul Renovation. That would have been a good idea and a money maker. And a better location than the Telegraph Ave location. While I welcome In-N-Out, pedestrian traffic in that area could be adversely impacted.

Welp, so much for that:

Confirmed: In-N-Out rep confirms that the Telegraph banner is not theirs and they have no current plans to open a store in Berkeley.

The restaurant next to 99 Ranch (Macau Pearl or whatever?) has pretty good dim sum actually, it's just the prices that are pretty high and you can find better value elsewhere.

Where in Emeryville is there good dim sum? Are you thinking of Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood? That place struck me as also having decent food but being kinda pricey.

UCLA has an In N Out in westwood. Its awesome. One would be awesome in Berkeley.. I doubt it'd impact Pappys much but yes, Bongo would be toast. This wouldn't be a bad thing, I love me my in n out.

Exactly, I defy people to name a single city in the country, even the world, that has more seminaries and institutions of religious instruction--especially Christian--than Berkeley.
