I can see the call being technically correct (maybe TheBearsHaveWon can comment on the specifics of what draws a foul), as the Ivory Coast defender did seem to step on the Greek player's foot as he was winding up to take a shot. Still, what a rough time for that call to be made.

at a certain point if im suarez, i just wouldnt want to be known for that. its got to be embarrassing. if it ends up that hes slightly lessor of a player, but can refrain from bizzare behavior, im sure most soccer fans and teams would take that guy rather than this version. sounds like the guy needs to take it down a notch.

We have 3.5 bids because of Jack Warner's crooked ass and the insane amount of Caribbean votes that he always swung Blatter and Co.'s way.

Now that Warner's reign is over and he's pretty much in quarantine in Trinidad because of a U.S. federal investigation who knows how "in" we are.

Somehow I doubt they mess with that half spot considering that FIFA may need the U.S. Soccer Federation to step in and host the 2022 World Cup. Concacaf just needs to keep growing.

That's a penalty. It's also dangerous play. You can't block a player's leg when he goes to kick the ball. 100% right call. Otherwise everytime the goalie kicks the ball, you might as well grab his leg, too.

Agree it's nuanced but a Mexican from Mexico told me that's what it means in this context. It's possible something was lost in translation but his English is quite decent so I'll take his word for it.

The thing that may be out of context is how widely the word is used in Mexico versus "f*****t" here which has generally seen as an unacceptable slur but I can't really speak to that.

Fouls and Misconduct are covered under Law 12.

For something to be a "Foul" the action must meet four requirements:
1. The ball must be in play
2. The action must occur on the field of play
3. The action must be committed by a player
4. The action must be against an opponent (you cannot foul a teammate)

If one of these DFK fouls is committed by a player within his own penalty area (anywhere within the larger of the two marked rectangular areas in front of each goal) the result is a penalty kick (PK) - regardless of the position of the ball as long as the ball was in play at the time of the offense.

I separated the first seven as the referee must consider whether misconduct also occurred.

If the action is careless - no misconduct simple foul. DFK and move on.
If the action is reckless - misconduct - caution the miscreant - DFK
If the action is with excessive force - misconduct - send off the miscreant - DFK

Careless, reckless and excessive force are defined as follows:
(yes, in practice, the gradation becomes subjective judgement from one referee to another)

“Careless” means that the player has shown a lack of attention or
consideration when making a challenge or that he acted without precaution.

"Reckless” means that the player has acted with complete disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, his opponent.

“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent

Playing in a dangerous manner (PIADM) requires that there be NO contact as it is only an Indirect Free Kick offense (IFK).
Once there is contact, PIADM is no longer a consideration as the action has risen to DFK level.

Perhaps you meant that tripping or tackling an opponent in such a manner is also misconduct as there was a disregard for the danger to (reckless), or actual danger of injuring (excessive force) an opponent.

In these cases the misconduct is sanctioned with a caution or a send off.
Further, if the action is a DFK foul and if committed by a player in his own penalty area, the restart is a PK.

Plenty of pundits had CONCACAF with 0 teams advancing to the round of 16. Having 3 teams is a pretty remarkable feat. Leads me to believe that CONCACAF players are underrepresented in Europe.
