I am so tired of the horrible negativity on this site. So many people I believe are just talking negative to just vent or cause trouble. If you truly believe we won't win more than 2 games lets make a bet. Put your negative posting where your fingers are.

If Cal wins 2 games or less I won't post for a month for every 5 takers, 2 months for every 10, 3 months for every 15, and so on.... (I am amending this to say if I can get 5 in I will do a minimum of 3 months which is needed to apparently make this not one-sided)

If Cal does win 3 or more games you can't post for the rest of the season. The second they hit their 3rd win that is it no more posting until the last game.

Here is the thing. Some of you act like you know we have no chance and last year is going to repeat itself. You don't want to see maybe why we had problems and if we have improved those. I am tired of all the people coming onto every thread and spewing this negative crap and I am willing to put my belief that we will win over 3 games on the line... i like a good challenge, but i'm in the 3 or more camp. what if anyone who says 2 or fewer has to post a pic of him/herself wearing stanfurd underwear when we get the 3rd win. and vice versa.

Well, duh, the risk is so one-sided. Why is it that you only risk 1 month per 5 takers whereas everyone else has to stop posting for the rest of the season?

Anyway, I think your outrage is overdone. Vegas has us somewhere around 3-4 wins. Guessing that we're going to get 2 wins is only 1 win away from that. In any other (Tedford) year, Vegas could have have had us getting 7 wins and there would be no outrage if people guessed us at 6 wins.

I think you need to save your righteous rage until the season. Or, if you're absolutely confident that we will get more than 2 wins, how about you take a single-sided bet of not posting until we get there?

Need I remind you that we had 1 win last season and that 2 wins would actually be an improvement over last year?

I think the real sad part is that a guess of 4 wins is somehow seen as talking positive compared to 2 wins as being negative. How far the bar has fallen. In any other year 4 wins would be an absolute insult and predicting a collapse of a season

I already made a bet. The same bet I do every year. I bought season tickets. I still think we will win two or three games; I bought tickets as a "bet" against myself that I will see some wins at home.

I'm glad you are optimistic although I don't know how many wins you think we will get. I don't think we will win many and maybe we will win 2 but I'm willing to watch. I think most people on this site are in that camp. I think you mistake realism for negativity. Sonny has shown us almost zero. Maybe 2 wins IS being optimistic.

In my estimation, some of the negs are rooting for Dykes to fail, because they think that will force the athletic department to hire a big-name coach. Never happen, IMHO, because of the cost. In fact, if Dykes gets fired, I suspect we go back to the Tedford model of looking for an assistant coach from another school to elevate. Given the stadium debt and the moribund fundraising, relative to the size of our alumni, a Saban type is never coming to Cal.

Haven't seen 'em practice yet. Spring ball was not overly inspiring.

As I mentioned on the insider board when you brought this up with another poster, I think it's a great bet. This formulation is pretty favorable to the naysayers because if they think we're so bad than even if they acknowledge we could get to 3 wins, they probably wouldn't expect that third win to come until BYU at which point the season is over. I would be disappointed if not a single nega accepts this bet because I think the bet will help create some drama on BI which will make things entertaining in a season where we are unlikely to get to a bowl game.

So come on negas - at least one of you must be willing to bet your participation here that we won't win 3 games.

When it comes to Cal football, most Cal fans are not sure of anything.

In the words of Terrence Mann, from the Field of Dreams movie: "I admire your passion, misguided though it be."

I would be absolutely shocked if Cal manages to win 3 games this season. There are simply no gimmes on the slate besides Sac State, and Sonny & Crew have not yet shown me anything to hang my hat on.

I think the worst case is another 1-11. And I say that not with anger or a desire to see this coaching staff fail. This is not so much as "negativity" as it is perceived "reality." Now, could something special be building behind closed doors. Sure. That's the hope every year, that a good Cal team will emerge and come together.

I hold out a 10% hope that with a new DC, less injuries, and improved playcalling from Tony Franklin, Cal could put things together and, against all odds, win 4.

I predict 2-10, figuring Sac State as a 'W' and hopefully snagging one more 'W' (best guess would be versus Colorado here at Memorial).

I honestly think these Cal Bears might do better than 2 wins, it's just they were so bad last year I'm not willing to make a prediction (let alone a wager). If there's anyting worse than watching sucky football it's predicting your team will be better and then watching sucky football. Any way...

• If the Defense truly is improved and healthy, and Kaufman is as good as advertised on turn-arounds, that "should" add a couple of wins.
  
• If the Offense is truly installed and running on all cylinders, as opposed to last season where it was at 50%<, that should mean 1-2 more wins.

Those are big "IFs" right now but reasonable improvement should happen, just don't know how that translates into wins.

Jamonit - for a guy who seems very close to the program being frustrated that people are underplaying our chances this year, I think that is a good sign (as opposed to you resigned to agree). I just think there were too many unfortunate variables last year, esp. on D, that brought a perfect storm of really bad football. A lot of this has changed, especially with super duper key guys like Scarlett, McClure, Avery, Moose, Adcock, Sina, etc. back healthy. Imagine if those guys were healthy, as well as having Forbes and McCain all playing like we should have. I doubt we would have been the laughing stock we were. Then add a guy with the coaching chops of Kaufman. Plus year 2 under tTFS and with Goff adding 20 lbs and no longer a true freshman, how can we not improve not only a little but a lot? This analysis is a reasonable guess, but I would say is more close to reality than any forecast rag that saw last year's result and had their copy for us already made in January. I'm bullish on the Bears!

I think theres enough talent to get to a bowl game to be honest, but its all got to come together. everyones got to do their part and we need to have a good year on the injury front

That's us in a nutshell for this season. Thanks gobears725. I mean teams like Buffalo, Tulane and UNLV were making bowl games. A bowl game isn't something unreachable this season.

One-sided? You know how many people have said we can't and won't win more than 2 games? I risk not posting for over a year if people truly believe we won't get 3 wins with the tiered betting system. Plus lets say we do get 3 wins when is that? If it is BYU as stated by someone you didn't risk anything. So really for you to miss posting for more than a month you would have to have 3 wins before our last 4 games so 3 wins out of 8 games. Unless we get to 6 wins, make a bowl, and we win those first 3 games the max you will risk is a month or 2. I can see your point though I will put a minimum 3 months of me not posting for at least 5 takers.

Yes injuries, key injuries, can throw a monkey wrench in anyone's predictions.
However, I am going for 4,5 wins.

Who will we beat? I don't know, but there will be improvement and the team will come together, and I enjoy being in the stands...even if things are iffy.
Those of us who have been around here awhile, have learned you can't know what will happen as we go along here. This is obvious, but a bunch of posters seem to think they can play the season on the internet. You all can stay home.
Football season is a fun thing....Wins? they will come.
I intend to enjoy myself during this season, and be a Cal fan.

How is that realism? It is an unknown. While you can say signs point to a bad season because of how bad the previous year was... If you don't take into count the circumstances that we went through last year. The changes that have been made or improvements won't make a difference in the possibility for success of the team is not realism to me. To be realistic you can make an educated guess, but drawing conclusions of a low win total is not realism.... It is a guess that could be educated or not. Personally I see 4-5 wins this year and we could win less and we could win more. I go off of what makes success teams from year to year and look at last years young inexperienced roster that was slammed by an insane amount of injuries compared to people just looking at the 1-11 record trying to judge future success.

I think we can realistically beat Northwestern, Sac State is a lock, WSU, Wash, AZ, and maybe an upset or two.
