I'm not going to pretend that wasn't a horrific, gut-wrenching loss tonight. I've been on the sidelines as games have slipped away on the road, with raucous cheers cascading down on the field in waves, just like tonight. It's a awful feeling. And to have the game end that way was just surreal.

It's tempting when you care a lot about the team to get bitter and lash out and look for targets for your disappointment. But I have to give credit where credit's due. When the chips were down in the 4th quarter, Solomon and Jones flat-out balled-out.

Did Cal have something to do with that? The players, the coaches? Sure but man, did they come through.

Many will say that this is just the same old Cal. The end result and the accompanying heartbreak that comes with it is familiar but these guys were making plays all over the field most of the night. The defense had only given up 13 on the road going into the 4th quarter to a very potent offense.

Arizona ran 106 plays. 106 plays! The defense was out of gas at the end and Arizona pulled off one of the most unbelievably clutch comebacks and final plays I've seen in my life. I'll tip my hat to them and move on.

Hopefully the team will grow from this. They have a lot of young, confident players and I think they will.

This is an incredibly exciting team to watch. I'll be chaperoning our youth group's annual water ski and camping weekend at Berryessa from Friday to Sunday this week, but you can bet your life I'll slip away sometime @11 on Saturday and be in Section T for the Colorado game, waiting for some more exciting football.

Go Bears! They will learn and grow, and they've grown so much in 12 months! I can't wait what we'll be in another 12 months. And, we get to see it happening in the next few months too!

One of the wildest games I've ever been to or watched. Reminded me of the NM Bowl in 2012. Two offenses going at each other all night. Finally came down to who had the ball last. You'll get there. Dykes is an offensive mastermind. Once you get a little more depth on D, Goff and the O are only going to get better, you'll start rolling up the wins. Starting at Colorado.

Great game, sorry for your loss, good luck the rest of the way. I know a couple of Cal fans back home who are probably feeling just as bad as you are.

Guess we know how Oregon fans felt after Dave Barr led Cal to an incredible comeback win against Oregon way back circa 1992.

Well said MB .... I was left feeling so completely and utterly disappointed, I couldn't speak. But after the initial shock wore off (not sure how the disappointment will), I am proud of how far this team has come. Through everything that happened last year ... the injuries, the defections, the god awful lousy record, etc .... the Cal Bears are on a tremendous upward swing and I believe they will rise up much much more.

In sports (and life), "they" say one should never get too high or too low, that people should try to keep an even keel. As difficult as the losses and lack of success is to deal with, it is what it is. Our boys in blue and gold are giving it their all and this is evidenced by the play on the field. The odds were so stacked against us this year (given all the things that has happened to the program the last several years) but the coaching staff and the boys stayed strong and stayed true. They deserve our support and respect and encouragement no matter how things turn out.

I know his difficult it has been ... Cal football has never been consistently successful in recent years and I would love to feel the powerful euphoria that comes with consistent success like an Alabama fan (for example). Any fan can find fault in play calling and personnel choices, especially when we lose, but everyone has a opinion and bottom line, these are kids ... KIDS. The coaches are doing what they can and doing things right IMHO .... Unfortunately, things don't always turn out the way we always want them to

GO BEARS!!!!! BEAT THE BUFFS!!!!!

I feel the same way. Hopefully these guys coaches included understand this too. I see a helluva team out there answering time and again in the 4th quarter. This game goes to Arizona they are the ones who hadto make all those plays st the end to win regardless of how much we want to heap the blame on outselves for "allowing" it. I am flying to see the Colorado game I hope they unload on the Buffs with the same intensity. Only wins will come from delivering that kind of grit and determination.

As always, well said, MB. The perspective is right on. I was watching from Europe between the hours or 4am and 8am, drifting off to sleep several times and dreaming that the game was over. It was profoundly bizarre.

I'm wearing my Berkeley sweatshirt with pride today. Even though it's painful to get blasted in the nuts like that game did, the beauty of Cal is that there is always reason to be proud. A lot of schools are so tied in to the football program that it's their identities. A loss like that destroys the fragile pride others have for their schools when it's all they've got. Yeah it sucked but we're still the greatest university in the world and that's always going to be a much stronger lift than any one football game, however horrible. That said, I hope the fellas regroup, wipe it off and play angry next week against the Buffs.

Go Bears!

Why not use your tallest players and best jumpers to defend an end of the game hail mary even if they normally play offense. The Cal defender that let the ball go over his head seemed kind of short to me. A very tuff loss to swallow but next week we have Colorado at CMS and the Bears should bounce back with a victory.

There was virtually no defender between the wr and qb....all were off to one side of the receiver or behind them.

The defense (notwithstanding last night) is vastly improved over last year, and Goff is one of the most exciting Cal QBs I've ever seen. It's certainly not the team of a year ago, or the team of the last year of Tedford. It's an exciting team to watch, and should continue to improve over the season. Colorado presents a different test -- can we handle a beatable conference opponent at home? I hope the fans show and that CMS gets loud for this, and all the upcoming home games.

Could not agree more. As painful as this loss was last night, I had none of the last two years' feeling. This team will grow, mature, recruit to its strategy, and get better. Great football game, very tough loss. Now move on and keep growing. go Bears

Not if poor decision making continues by the coaching staff. Just look at the DC play calling in the in the 4th with no pressure on the QB when they are rolling all over us. Sad to hand a all most certain victory to the other team. That's on the coaches not the players.

I hope for the same thing, although last night's loss will no doubt make some fence-sitters stay away. We'll be there, of course.

I am very proud of our team. I am a fan that takes losing in this fashion very hard. I love Cal and am not mad at the players, but the staff should put them in a position to win. Like I said, I take it hard to where I get depressed and sometimes I want to stay away for my own health. But make no mistake, I bleed Blue and Gold and wish I could take it more in stride

It's such an awkward feeling losing the way we did. With that said, I could not be more proud of the way our boys battled and this is simply a step in the right direction. We need to face adversity while we learn how to close out talented opponents. This team is going to be awesome next year, it's incredible how far we've come. All those clowns in the thread last night who threw out "i'm done" can eat it, we have alot to be proud of.

I'm in agreement with the last couple posts.

I like to believe that our coaches are still feeling this all out, and what's going to work best, here in the PAC-12, against specific teams even. There really seems to be a balancing act with respect to how to manage the game when leading. The second half collapse in each of our D1 games is telling us something...

From a team that was down and down big early last season, to the exact opposite this year is fascinating, and certainly a very good thing. The machine can work, and as with all tinkering, we need to refine in other areas now. That's how I'm seeing this all rather simplistically.

I don't imagine we'll often face opposing offenses running a 100+ plays too, but we must be ready for such. Colorado will not pose that problem next week. The Buffs just beat a Hawaii team more convincingly than UW and OSU did. They were going in the right direction last season and seem to be this year too. A 2 TD loss to ASU I suppose is respectable, but most importantly to me is how they played against ASU. They played well, having almost 550 yards (100+ more than ASU) and 28 first downs (10 more than ASU). And 91 plays, I didn't realize so many...

A win, a solid one against the Buffs, should not be diminished.

What we can also learn from this game is that Zona never gave up. They kept going after our weaknesses. It's never over until it's over. Don't ever give up or become complacent until it's over.

I agree Solomon played out of his mind in the second half, and that was after one of the worst first halves I seen of a Pac 12 QB

I didn't like our calls in the last possession, and that we were apparently in prevent defense the entire 4th Quarter (which I rarely like)

bottom line is it was a crazy game, that will unfortunately go down in AZ history as the greatest comeback in school history, and a game that Cal really needed to help gain back our stride. It was more important to us then them.

Over-stated "moral victory" stuff...on the other hand, I don't buy "same ol' Cal"...it was a winnable game, and Cal let it slip away. I suppose I will be more accepting of the over-all concept if Arizona proves over the season that they are indeed a pretty good team...
