It's kind of interesting how little Rubenzer was used last Saturday, especially when Goff didn't have it early on. Maybe sticking with him until he found his rythm is what allowed him to have the nice finish.

Agreed totally. If we use Rubenzer in the future please let him come in first and throw a pass( and the kid passes well). Geez, every Rubenzer play is a third down run. Duh. Let us at least play smart.

Another thing on the off day ... Goff's interception was horrible. He telegraphed that pass by staring down the receiver and not seeing the safety. I am sure the scouting says we can throw deep on their man to man defense but that safety was obviously playing centerfield from the snap.

I haven't seen that bad of an interception from Goff in a long time.

I don't get it, you say he's not throwing deeper than other QBs, but then you note he leads the nation in yards per completion. Yards per attempt combines completion percentage and yards per completion which is why it's such a good metric. Goff is 7th in the nation in yards per attempt, and has the 2nd lowest completion percentage in that group. Even if you take away Lasco's catch, Goff would be top 10 and a lot of those guys have had long plays on short throws. I would love to see how Goff's completion percentage compares to other top QBs on throws more than 20 yards down field. I would imagine it's pretty good.

Good stuff Unit2. I realized such while composing, and feel that the times we go deep, we connect a fairly good portion of those, as you also surmise. After watching a fair number of games, and the opposing QBs going deep a handful of times as well, I don't sense that we are throwing deep more often. We be connecting though!

As the Ds we face get tougher, more pressure on the QB, straight-up man by more talented players, it will be fascinating to see how we handle such.

Off day... as in he missed some throws he usually doesn't miss. In the 2nd half of the AZ game, they had a good game plan against our pass and Goff didn't have the same opportunities to make plays as he had in the first half against Colorado.

You can't view stats without context, my friend. And stats are after the fact. I knew last year Goff was special despite his production. Why? You can see it in his play. The plays he is able to make, the quick release he has, the touch, his attributes: height especially, etc.

Agreed on all that you stated regarding what we see in Goff, his release, touch on the ball, etc. The stats are the stats, nothing about context was implied or to be inferred. If context must be inserted, I'd prefer to see what this offense (this System, the QB, the pass game as a whole) can do after a D had a chance to make adjustments. I suppose one can take into account the first half and somehow handicap it because the opposing defense was somewhat surprised and not ready for a TFS firing on all cylinders.

The stats I pull and derive are for educational, illuminating purposes, as some will be deemed awesome for the homers, and others possibly not. I can give a rat's butt by the overly sensitive who can't handle objectivity and take it wrongly as an affront to a player, System, coach or all things Cal . Not calling you such JSML.

Nice having another friend, if genuine.
