I don't love this team... trading touchdowns all night is just boring. The only exciting play was the second kick return...Aside from that every score is known to be followed by another score by the other team. Lame.Still better than the last few years. Still sucks though. Unexciting football. We score as often as the other team does...through several games now. Opposite of excitement. Outcomes are known.

These guys are unified and they entertain like crazy.

If we had even an average defense, with this offense we could win the Pac-12 title! Great game by the offense and special teams tonight. Trevor Davis is the man!!

Put Davis at SAFETY in place of Piatt and we just might stop giving up big plays.

Weirdo. You're the old geezer that yells at little kids and puppies.

The D is what it is. We have teams passing 70 times on us and have zero veteran playmakers and no quality depth whatsoever in the secondary. We have no true pass rushers that can get after the QB and teams barely run on us so our quality LBs get little chance to stand out. The D will take steps next year as guys age and gain experience but we are going to take lumps for the foreseeable future while we bring in the depth and players get better.

There is literally no pressure as a fan to follow this team right now. You know the D is going to get shredded and you can celebrate the stops and turnovers when they happen. The O is able to bail them out time and time again and we can actually sneak out wins despite the horrific D. This will probably go down as one of the most unique seasons in Cal football history. People should sit back and enjoy it.

I hope this isn't the future of football. I love watching good defense and running games. I really hope our defense improves, but I don't think its gonna happen this year - so far to go.

"outcomes are known"? What a stupid statement to make. Right, you knew Davis was going to score two consecutive return TDs, and that WSU was going to miss its FG from 6 yds out.

The offense is way ahead of the defense in talent and experience. Maybe next year we can look at fielding an average defense, but for now this is just what we have. Very thin in the secondary and on the d-line, so we're going to give up points to teams that have good passing games.

Gotta love the fight in this team. Amazing comeback. Down by 10 at the end of Q1, down by 11 at the half and end of Q3, and win by 1! Every single one of our possession in the 2H was a touchdown. Freakin ridiculous!

It would have been so easy for the team to be shell-shocked by WSU's offense, especially in Q3, but the team grinded it out. Also the D didn't give up either and stepped up with a key 3 and out to start Q4 and kept up the good fight.

It's not so much the team.
It is very clear from the rules and the refs that good defense is now illegal.
The only way to win is to stack up on offense.
It is happening around the country.

take for example the tenn vs Florida game .. their offenses suck that is why they could NOT score

Two come-from-behind wins, a young team learning how to close games and win. Add in that the current team is composed of high character student-athletes, and it is easy to root for this year's Cal team.

1. You must hate basketball, nothing exciting ever happens there.* 2. How is the outcome (who wins) known? Seems like the opposite to me, we don't know who will win until the final seconds. 3. Personally, I love every Cal team we have ever put on the field. My love for Cal began as a student in the 80s. teams with good offense and bad defense are not a new phenomenon at Cal--hardly "boring" (in fact, I think we would both prefer boring wins).

*I can understand not wanting football to change, but it has. Remember our great 2004 team lost to Leach and Texas Tech because we couldn't stop their offense. It is like basketball fans who miss the days of Pete Newell when games were won on defensive struggles. You can miss it, but it isn't coming back. Adapt or die.

Maybe he has forgotten how to coach. He sure hasn't done a damn thing this year. Our defense give quarterbacks all day to throw. No pressure whatsoever. How do you let a team with no timeouts and trailing by nine with less than three minutes left win? We may as well kept KiffinM Sarkisian coaches exactly like Kiffin. throw the ball downfield. So tired of those screens. They only work against inferior teams like Hawaii or Fresno State. They get blown up against quick teams like UCLA or Notre Dame. We were lucky to beat Stanford. Even that win doesn't look impressive now. Hogan is horrible. They will lose five games this year. Haden had a chance to go in a whole other direction but he chose Sarkisian. He has no business coaching at USC.

This was true under Tedford's last years, leaving us barren in 2013 and the new staff has not done enough to remedy the situation yet.

What is becoming more and more obvious to me is that in modern football, CB is the most critical position, especially as far as requiring phenomenal athleticism. Pass rushers are next.

i agree. this is what i'm concerned about the most re: recruiting...DB and DL.

1 JC CB, and 1 HS S last year isn't going to solve our problems anytime soon. the dropoff is too big after our 1st units. i'm so tired of missing out on the big targets and being that "close second" choice.

It is really hard to convince hs players to come here when the reputation of the school and the previous coach and his staff playing favorites and being snooty. Damage is greater than what you think!

how much longer do you suppose we can keep blaming JT/staff for lack of defensive recruiting success? i'm asking bc you made a similar comment about JT in another thread. do you know something we don't?

it just seems implausible that a guy like Langley, for example, who's been to Cal too many times to count, is turned off by what he may or may not have heard about JT playing favorites?

and some will hate to the core cause dykes is the coach or his OC is snake oil salesman
