First time in history so many top teams lost in one weekend (or something like that) ... I saw it in on espn waiting for our highlights (so it must be true)

There's nobody left on our schedule who we cannot beat, and nobody who can't beat us. At this point we could flip a coin the rest of the way and predict our outcome.

Unless BYU's QB doesn't come back. Then that's a likely win. But other than that it's pick 'em the whole way.

If you're right, then odds are we finish 7-4-1. I'll take that.

Knowing our offense and our defense, would be interested in seeing how you all see the rest of the season going.

Considering that expectations for Cal continue to be low among the "experts", the Bear has an opportunity, week by week, to rip the hearts out of opposing teams and fans.
They can look at the standings all they want and they won't believe that

I am putting the cart before the horse, but this team probably makes the bowl committees happy with the amount of scoring they do. How many wins for these guys to go bowling?

The report on BYU's QB was that the injury ended his season. As of right now he won't be back.

Wash is a primary running offense. Yeah I'm sure Miles will have his best game of the season and Ross will go crazy but we match up WAY better against the dawgs than wazoo

UCLA OL is bad. Really bad. We may actually generate something vaguely approaching a pass rush against them. And UCLA doesn't play well historically at CMS. Punchers chance anyways

OSU is another shootout

USC we got a punchers chance. They are thin and Kessler isn't really all that great. But their WR will be open all over the place

The Ducks? Who knows. Wanna see if they get better with a couple of their OL back. A couple of them should be back by then

The furd? We match up ok against them. And it's big game. Who knows.

BYU we should beat

OSU is not a shootout, I think their QB went a few games without throwing a TD

The pass defense is actually improving. We struggled the last 3 games because we were facing spread offenses that put 4 WR out. OSU doesn't not play the same spread offense, so we should be able to use a more standard defense and play tighter coverage. I expect the pass defense will start looking better now that we are no longer facing teams that throw multiple WRs into every play.

didn't the Cal defense get three stops? And wasn't it the defense which again stopped our opponent at the goal line? So let's give them some love. I was concerned that Darius White didn't look so fast out there, after being touted for his "Speed." But don't forget that Lowe made an "interception" called back because of pass interference, and Scarlett drove Halliday into the turf on that last drive. Like Sonny told them- make one atop and we win.

WSU punted 4 times, turned the ball over on downs once and missed the field goal. Cal stopped them 6 times. (we also forced one field goal attempt that was successful)

Cal was stopped 4 times, all in the first half, including the first 3 times Cal had the ball. Cal had 7 TDs in the second half and scored on every possession. (not counting the final kneedown as a possession).

As for White, he looked a bit lost at times. I get a feeling he wasn't ready for the speed of the Pac-12 offenses. He'll continue to improve.

The D also forced them to kick FGs. And two consecutive weeks of goal line stands that resulted in two Ws.
Some rays of light are starting to shine through, especially after taking on the last few spread teams and winning.
White finally got in; Willis got in; David Garner, the third legacy player, got in.
And if we can get McClure and Sebastian back, even though they'll be a bit rusty, the depth will improve.

Meanwhile, Goff struggles on O trying to break through the 7 TD and 600 yard barriers. :p
All those KO runbacks for TDs aren't helping Goff's numbers. :p

You could make an argument that the last 3 games were 3 of the hardest teams in the conference for us to defend. BYU, UW and furd shouldn't be able to do they to us. UCLA, USC and OSU have the QBs to do it.

UCLA really only has 2 WRs and OSU hasn't had any WR step up. USC is the one team that has the skill players to really threaten us out of the 3 you named.

UW has the WRs, but no QB and the OL they have doesn't pass block particularly well. Hogan is not very accurate deep and doesn't appear to have any really fast WRs. I don't know much about BYU, but they appeared to live and die on Taysom Hill's ability to run.

USC WR are worrisome but Kessler doesn't really worry me as much. However Kessler IS good at the death by a thousand cuts thing. Watching them Kessler excels at the shirt high percentage first read routes which are tough to defend against with the talent they got at WR. What Kessler is not so good at that I saw is going down his progression and throwing the deeper patterns.

Not worried about Mannion and OSU
A QB needs WRs
WR's need a QB
Not many teams left on the schedule have both.
Many teams we will play are running teams.
We have a + running D.

However, many teams we will play are also much better defensively.
Don't expect Cal to rack up points like they have.

USC, OSU and UW have all given up large numbers of points to passing offenses. UCLA has at times looked good on defense, but the ASU QB racked up more than 400 yards passing despite not getting into the endzone much. (he then put 500+ on USC). Furd has been dominant on defense, but that will be the Big game so who knows. Oregon would perhaps be the one defense to fear, but Arik Armstead got hurt and they have struggled on defense for 2 weeks in a row as both Zona and WSU put more than 30 points on them.

Hard to say how good the defenses are, but right now I suspect Cal will be able to score on just about anyone. The offense is firing on all cylinders right now.

Scarlett pancaking halliday at the end was the game winner

that happened on the second to last drive, but I'm sure it had an effect. I didn't see the numbers on the Cal player who folded Halliday in half 3 plays before the missed field goal. Halliday was limping when he lined up for the first and goal at the end, and that was after that second hit.

The pass rush was completely inadequate most of the game, but those 2 hits probably changed the game.

BYU's back-up QB was 10/29 for 172 yards and 3 Interceptions... Losing Hill their starter is big! They are not nearly the same team without him.

Thanks for the correction
